It's the start of March and there is always so much going on this time of year. The days are getting longer (Yay for more sunlight) and the weather is finally starting to warm up. This is also the month that we get to co-host with the Rockford Community Center our Annual Spring Business Expo on March 14th from 9am-12pm. This is such a fun event where we bring community together and get to showcase all of the amazing businesses and non-profits in the Rockford-Greenfield Area. The Expo typically draws in 1,500 people and this year the them is "Bloom Into Spring" where different businesses and non-profits will be showcasing some landscaping ideas, outdoor events, gardening tips, and other outdoor tips and tricks. In addition, there will be a batting cage open for kids and adults to come master their swing, events on the stage, door prizes, and RC Racer Cars. You won't want to miss this amazing event!
I may be a couple weeks early, but I am ready to say "Happy Spring!" Hope to see you at our next Chamber events. For more information on upcoming events, visit our Facebook page, website, or follow our newsletter for more information.
Sincerely,
Shannon Sand

Wright-Hennepin members donate $47,800 to local organizations
Rockford, Minn. (February 25, 2026) — Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) members who participate in Operation Round Up (ORU) donated grants totaling over $47,800 in February. ORU has awarded more than $5.6 million to local organizations since it began in 1994.
WH members who participate in ORU allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the next dollar. The rounded amount is then used for donations supporting local programs. Approximately 90% of WH’s members participate in the ORU program, contributing a total of almost $20,000 each month. ORU’s board manages the donated money, which is held in a trust fund. Through a selection process and review of guidelines, the ORU trustees evaluate funding requests on a bimonthly basis.
Watch a video demonstrating the local impact of ORU at bit.ly/WH-ORU25.
The ORU trust board donated the following on behalf of WH members:
• $29,224, local food shelves.
• $7,500, Angel Foundation, funds for emergency financial assistance for cancer patients. • $5,000, Thumbs Up, funds to support a teen outreach event.
• $3,000, Can Do Canines, funds to support programming for assistance dogs.
• $2,500, MNK9SS, funds to support the training of five canine handler teams for advanced water based rescue and human remains detection.
Applications for the next round of funding are due April 1. Learn about the activities ORU supports and find the grant application by visiting bit.ly/WH-ORU, emailing oru@whe.org, or calling ORU Trust Administrator Lisa Zipp at (763) 497-8189.

1. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting in your field?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and build relationships early. The more you connect with people and stay organized, the smoother everything becomes.
2. If you could pick any fictional character to be your mentor at work, who would it be?
Hermione Granger — she’s smart, resourceful, and always prepared, which is basically the dream combo for handling busy workdays.
3. What was your dream job when you were a kid, and how has it changed?
When I was younger, I always wanted to be an accountant and run the books for a big company. While my career path shifted, it still aligns with those interests — now I manage inventory and stay very involved in the community, which lets me stay organized, detail-focused, and connected with people in a meaningful way.
4. If you could switch jobs with anyone for a week, what role would you choose?
If I could switch jobs with someone for a week, I’d jokingly pick my “dream role” — a trophy wife. A whole week with no emails, packed schedules, or constant to-do lists, just enjoying life and recharging, sounds like a pretty great reset before jumping back into reality refreshed and ready to go.
5. What’s your go-to productivity hack for busy days at work?
Time-blocking my day and tackling the hardest task first. Once that’s done, everything else feels more manageable.
6. What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long workday?
Spending time with my kids, baking/cooking, or just having a quiet moment to reset — simple things that help me recharge.
7. If you could master any new musical instrument instantly, what would it be?
I’d choose the flute. I played it a lot in middle school and high school and really loved it, but I haven’t picked it up in years. I still have my flute and all my music, so it would be amazing to jump right back in and play like I never stopped.
8. What's one team-building activity you think every company should try?
A volunteer day in the community. It builds teamwork, boosts morale, and gives everyone a shared purpose outside of the usual work environment.
