FRENCH FOR MIDDLE BEGINNERS A2 - ON ZOOM

Tuesdays, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Starting April 7. 2026

Do you find that you understand quite a bit of French when you read it — or even when you hear it — but when it’s time to speak, you suddenly feel tongue-tied?

In this six-week course, we'll focus on overcoming the fear and hesitation that can hold us back from speaking freely. Together, we’ll practice speaking out loud without second-guessing ourselves. We’ll work with words, fine-tune our pronunciation, while we are working with stories and easy articles from various media. This will help us build sentences with confidence. Along the way, grammar and new vocabulary will seamlessly be woven into our practices.

We'll create a fun, friendly, and nonjudgmental environment where everyone supports one another. Apologizing for mistakes will not be allowed.

Café Littéraire sur Zoom

Wednesday, March 11, 2026 @ 6:30 PM

For further information and to receive the Zoom link, send an email to alliancefrancaisenh@gmail.com .

Ciné Club sur Zoom

If you have a favorite movie or any suggestions for future viewings, send us an email. Clay Howe will lead the conversation. Upcoming films to be announced. We meet on the third Thursday of the month. The film for March is "The Sorrow and the Pity" From 1940 to 1944, France's Vichy government collaborated with Nazi Germany. Marcel Ophüls mixes archival footage with 1969 interviews of a German officer and of collaborators and resistance fighters from Clermont-Ferrand. They comment on the nature, details and reasons for the collaboration, from anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and fear of Bolsheviks, to simple caution. Part one, "The Collapse," includes an extended interview with Pierre Mendès-France, jailed for anti-Vichy action and later France's Prime Minister. At the heart of part two, "The Choice," is an interview with Christian de la Mazière, one of 7,000 French youth to fight on the eastern front wearing German uniforms. It is available on for rentalon Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, free on Kanopy and Hoopla, and free trial on Kino Film. Co-sponsored by the  Federation of Alliances Françaises USA

Apéro National French Conversation Group (en français) – Every Wednesday

The group is for high-intermediate to advanced (or fluent) speakers who are current members of an Alliance Française chapter in the U.S. (if you are not a current member of an Alliance chapter, visit the Chapter’s page and sign up for membership at one of your closest AF chapters) or AATF members. Native speakers are welcome. This group conversation is for adult participants, ages 17 and up.

Note that conversation groups are not substitutes for taking an official French class. Conversation groups are for informal practice and for sharing the joy of conversing in French with other like-minded Francophiles or Francophones.

The national group meets by Zoom for an hour every Wednesday, and meets to accommodate our after-work Apéro theme:

Every Wednesday @ 5:00 PT / 7:00 pm CT / 8:00 pm ET

The group is hosted by a member of the Federation of Alliances Françaises board – Linda Witt. Attendees will be assigned to breakout rooms of 4-5 people, with each breakout session lasting 14 minutes. The rooms are then are re-created (for a different mix each time). In this way, participants get to meet and chat with a variety of participants from different backgrounds, regions, and fluency levels.

Participants will need to use Zoom (a free videoconferencing service). To get on the invitation list for the “Apéro-National” sessions, click here.

Language Immersion Program

Bordeaux, France

September-October 2026

Registration goes live on Mar 2, 2026

The Federation of Alliances Françaises USA is pleased to offer our second language-immersion travel program to Bordeaux, France in the fall of 2026. This is a benefit of Federation membership, allowing smaller chapters in many states to offer a language-immersion experience to their members. Bordeaux is an international tourist destination known for its architectural and cultural heritage and is often referred to as the world capital of wine, with many castles and vineyards.

In cooperation with the Alliance Française de Bordeaux Nouvelle-Aquitaine (AFB), program participants will have the opportunity to enroll in a group class at the AFB in the morning and attend cultural activities in the afternoon. Travel partners are welcome to attend under certain conditions.

  • For A2-level to C2-level students (from advanced beginners to advanced learners)—sorry, we cannot accommodate beginners. (All participants will be tested to ascertain their language level.)
  • Two housing options: homestay (organized by the program) or hotel (booked on your own)
  •  Mornings are dedicated to language learning and some afternoons will include cultural activities
