OUR MISSION:
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents,

This coming Sunday we will celebrate Palm Sunday marking Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for it is how we commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus’ life on earth. These are the days leading up to the great Easter Feast. Please take some time this week and next to share with your children (either on-line of in-person) the beautiful and sacred liturgies of Holy Week and Easter. Our students will be participating in a Lenten prayer service next Wednesday before we break for our vacation.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Zoom “State of the School” meeting last Tuesday. Your positive comments and support have been greatly appreciated. An email was sent to all our families with the presentation attached and it has also been posted on our school website. Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns. Our school parents are the best ambassadors we have, so please share all the great things happening at St. Rita with your family, neighbors and co-workers and encourage them to check us out.

Re-enrollment tuition agreements were sent home via SRS student mail at the beginning of the month. If you have not received it, please check your child’s back pack. Please be sure you read the letter and the tuition agreement as there have been some changes you need to be aware of.  After almost 20 years the annual HSA assessment fee has been increased slightly and has been rolled into the tuition costs. It is no longer a separate fee. We ask that you kindly return the re-enrollment agreement along with your non-refundable $150 tuition deposit to the school office on or before April 13, 2021. This will allow us adequate time to begin planning for the 2021-2022 school year. At this time, we do not anticipate offering a remote learning option for our students for the upcoming school year.

Information regarding our two summer programs – summer camp and a summer academic program - can be found via the link below or on our website. Space is limited in both programs. Enroll early to ensure your child has a spot.

Our Spring vacation will begin on Holy Thursday, April 1. If you will be traveling please be sure you check out the latest COVID guidelines below from the CDC which we will be following. Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care.  May you have a Blessed Holy Week.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

Parking
Please observe the NO PARKING signs on Gillies Road, Edgemere Road, and Dessa Drive. Your willingness to observe the NO PARKING signs will ensure the safety of our students and school neighbors, and will allow emergency vehicles to pass safely. Please share this with grandparents, caregivers, and anyone else who may pick up your child at dismissal. The Police Department has been issuing warnings and will be ticketing those drivers who disregard the NO PARKING signs.
Please see the map below for no parking areas, and available parking lots.
Areas marked in RED are NO PARKING zones.

Lenten Service Project Update

Many thanks to all our school families for your generosity to our school-wide Lenten Service Project. As you know, we are currently raising funds in support of the Connecticut Food Bank and the Divine Mercy Parish Food Pantry. Both these programs provide help to food insecure families, including the many children throughout our state who are affected by hunger. We are especially grateful and proud of our St. Rita School students who have donated their own money, including their snack money, toward helping those in need.
To date we have raised $3,391.83
toward our goal of $4,000. Again, thank you for your contributions and your continued help with this important and essential project.
Xavier High School

On May 1 at 9 am, Xavier will offer the opportunity for 7th graders to take the PreHSPT. This test is similar to the test that students take as part of their application to Xavier. By taking the test, students will gain a familiarity with the format, timing, and question types. A detailed score report will be mailed after the test administration to help students understand their areas of strength and weakness. Students who score in the 90th percentile or higher will earn a $500 scholarship for their freshman year at Xavier. It will be conducted online so students will just need access to a computer with a camera to take it. The testing fee is $10 and registration for it can be done online. Contact Nicholas Grasso, Director of Admissions, nmgrasso@xavierhighschool.org with any questions.
Enrollment Open for New Students
Enrollment for new students for the 2021-2022 school year is now open. Please click here to visit our enrollment page and to download an application, or call Mrs. Bruno, our Admissions Director, if you have any questions. Please spread the word - we have no better ambassadors than our current families.

COVID-19 UPDATE

I am sure most of you have heard that Connecticut is easing up its COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Governor has lifted the state's travel advisory mandate. The change means the state's travel guidance is now a recommendation not a requirement.

Travelers will no longer need to test or quarantine upon return home from a trip.

The state is reminding travelers to be cautious and advises testing and quarantining.

As we approach April vacation, please continue to be diligent if you have travel plans. Although testing and quarantining is not mandatory after traveling outside of Connecticut, it is still a recommendation in order to keep those around you safe.

State of Connecticut physical requirements:
A State of Connecticut physical is required for entry into grades PreK 3, PreK 4, K and Grade 7.

Physicals for Grades PreK3, PreK 4 and K must be dated after September 1, 2020.

Physicals for Grade 7 can be dated after May 30, 2020. Students entering Grade 7 are also required to have a tetanus booster and meningitis vaccine.

A copy of the physical and immunizations should be sent to school marked “attention school nurse” before the first day of school in the fall.

If you have any questions please reach out to the school nurse, Lisa Palma.
