Introducing SCC's New Dean of Students - Stephen Ampersand

Salem Community College has named Stephen J. Ampersand as Dean of Student Services. He began at SCC on March 21.

A higher education professional since 2005, the New Jersey native has served in leadership positions at Cecil College in Maryland, Delaware State University and, most recently, at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). As Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at HACC, he re-aligned the athletics department to a college-wide Office of Student Affairs, led the reorganization of the counseling and advising department to improve student retention, and championed an early college academy program for students of an underserved school district.
“Salem Community College is fortunate to hire someone of Stephen’s extensive background,” said President Michael Gorman. “His experience in leading student services divisions will be a tremendous asset.”

Ampersand is a doctoral student in Leadership for Organizations at the University of Dayton. He earned a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University, and bachelor’s and associate degrees in Business Administration from Peirce College in Philadelphia.
