Reliable News Media, Water Quality, and Festival of the Book... A busy week for our Fifth Graders! Fifth graders began the week with a visit from Dr. Vaidhyanathan, professor of media studies at UVA. He discussed how to maneuver the internet in order to find quality news and information. Later that day they were real world scientists working to understand watersheds, pollution, and the impact of development on a system. They looked at the water quality of Peabody’s creek system. Students discovered that the nearby retention pond, which is a 120 acre watershed, feeds the creek. They observed buffers around the pond and investigated the drainage system and health of the pond, a fun and informative way to celebrate the arrival of spring! Tuesday evening, Felicity Craig and Kiera Leone were honored by having their poetry chosen and reading it at the Omni, for the Festival of the Book event, Middle School Poetry and Prose.
Peabody Vocab Parade This parade is new to Peabody. The kids marched to show off their vocab word of choice and it was so much fun! We thank Susan Parmar for sharing her talents with us! Please see photo gallery here (password: vocabparade). The parade was also shown on yesterday's news.
PreK-5 Report Cards were mailed home today.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Grandparents and Special Friends Day is just a week away, and we are excited! In order to make the event run as smoothly as possible so that our guests may have a truly memorable experience with their student(s), please see below a list of a few reminders and updates:
Please plan for your student(s) guests to arrive no earlier than 8:45. They will need to enter through the Batten Building for registration, not the main entrance to the school.
We have planned for our 84 registered attendees and we are now at maximum capacity. Unfortunately, we can no longer accept RSVPs.
This event is for grandparents and special friends only. Parents may not attend.
Grandparents and special friends are invited to sign their grandchild/niece/nephew/etc. out of school on Friday beginning at 11:50AM. If you do not wish for your child's grandparent to sign him/her out of school, please email Vaughan Clark at email@example.com before Friday.
We are looking forward to a wonderful event! Thank you all for arranging for your child's grandparents and special friends to join us. We know the students and visitors will enjoy spending this special day together.
This week in Middle School...
Translation, Reflection and Rotation
Pre-Algebra students applied their knowledge of transformations to create these short stop-motion slideshows. Each project contained an original design that underwent a translation, reflection, and rotation. Enjoy!
