LIVESTREAM EQUIPMENT UPDATE: Wayne Rutherford has continued to install our new video and audio broadcast equipment in the sanctuary and balcony this past week. It is possible we will go "live" next weekend!

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. It is one of the few worship services where we reenact parts of the scripture reading, waving our palm branches as a festive march-like hymn All Glory, Laud, and Honor plays. Jesus and his disciples are drawing from several scripture references themselves in this procession from the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem, arriving in victorious humility.
Scholars point out another procession was proceeding on the same day. The one with the Roman-appointed governor of Judea leaving Caesarea Maritima (the harbor city built by Herod the Great in tribute to Caesar Augustus) and escorted by Roman legions.
One procession evokes the prophets and the Exodus story, with palms in hand and garments lain on the ground. The other reminds all visitors to the Passover festival of who's in charge.
Palm Sunday always asks the question: Which side are you on? How could the jubilant crowd on this day become the mob of crucifixion by Friday?
Do we act like Christians or live like one? You can say "Hosanna!" on one day and "Crucify him" in the days following.
Most of our critics have the evidence to back up the claim that we just act like Christ-followers rather than live like one. Several studies have revealed that less than 25 percent of American church members bother to show up on any given Sunday. The average American Christian gives less than 2% of his or her income to charities.
Palm Sunday calls us to examine what we put our hope in. Because what we put our hope in will define us. The events on your calendar, the transactions in your checkbook reveal those things well. The victory of Palm Sunday is not in conquest but in the jubilee. Are you performing a role, or revealing your hope in Christ?

Maundy Thursday Service
Thursday, April 1, 7 pm
IN-PERSON OR ONLINE
Maundy has more of an association with "maudlin" rather than Mandate. Gather with us on this meaningful evening as we recall Jesus' last commands, his mandate to love one another as he has loved us, and the act of service in washing his disciples' feet. While we will not have a foot washing service, we will have communion and readings of the betrayal, arrest, and trial of Jesus.

Give Regularly through five acts of generosity each month
|
|
|
|
Several times a year, congregations receive a special offering to support the ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). These gifts are given above and beyond the regular core support of Disciples Mission Fund.
The Easter Offering, received by most congregations on March 28 and April 4, 2021, supports several of the general ministries of the Christian Church. Your gift supports college students in leadership development programs, global mission partners, health and social service ministries, the formation of new congregations, support for pastors and chaplains, and so much more.
Your gift has the power to change lives around the world. Give online now or through your congregation. Thank you.
