Colonial Family

Congratulations to Lin Vaughn and Robbie Robinson on their marriage March 23. Pastor Aaron married them in their home with family present.

Altar Flowers Suspended

Because, like so many other small businesses, Dalton Flower's has to close as a non-essential business we will not have altar flowers for at least the next 30 days. We had been showing them next to Pastor Aaron in the online worship service.

Report from the Colonial Church Council

The Church Council met on March 22 via a video conference.  We decided that until the rules are relaxed on social distancing that the Church will remain closed except for mail pick-up and possibly some custodial work.  Heather is working remotely and can be reached by calling the church office or by email.  Aaron will be working remotely except for when he must be at the church; for example, while conducting Sunday services via YouTube.

The capital improvement campaign that we had been considering has been postponed indefinitely.  In the meantime we are getting a structural engineer to assess the moisture problem in the lower level so that we can consider options on moving ahead with that project.  We are also obtaining bids on the completion of the renovation in the kitchen in the Heritage room.  We will keep the congregation advised on progress made on these two projects.  Much will depend on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic downturn that will accompany it.

Giving at Colonial

Even though the building is currently closed at Colonial, we are still picking up mail everyday. Counters will not be counting as often, but will still be making deposits.  Therefore, you may mail in your pledge checks, Easter Lily, One Great Hour of Sharing, or any other payments and they will be processed.

An easier alternative is to send payments online.  You just fill in your banking information ( routing number and account number ) and your name and email and what fund you are paying ( Stewardship, food pantry, etc.) and the amount.

The link you use is https://colonialucc.breezechms.com/give/online

If you have any questions, you may email or call Heather in the office or Jayne Quimby, Financial Recorder.

Colonial Care Partners
Our sacred duty to observe social distance is vital right now. So, is our need to maintain connections over the days and weeks ahead. Please signup to be a Care Partner. You'll be paired with another person to check on every 48 hours. This is not just for people in the church community, but anyone. So share this widely. Because, as we often say: We're Better Together.

Order Easter Lilies
Easter lilies will be placed on the altar for Easter Sunday, April 12. You can order a plant in memory or in honor of a loved one. If you wish to donate a lily, print this form - complete it, attach a check for $17.00 each (payable to Colonial Church), and return it to the church office. Easter lilies will be used as part of our Easter Sunday worship service. We will print a list of the donors and honorees in the Crier.

One Great Hour of Sharing

"For we are co-workers in God's service; you are God's field, God's building"   1 Corinthians 3;9

One Great Hour of Sharing is one of the four UCC funds supported by all congregations. The theme is "Invest in the Future" and your contribution will allow UCC to continue working in communities worldwide, providing education to girls and boys, vocational training for adults, supporting microcredit lending and seeing people through to self-sufficiency by empowering families with skills to support themselves. These sustainable solutions offer support with dignity to all. We will be planting seeds for a new life to people all.

Please make a generous contribution. Because we will not be worshiping together, please make your donations online at https://tinyurl.com/colonial-giving

Thursday Morning Hebrews Bible Study

Many Jewish Christians of the first century were regarded by still-skeptical family, friends and neighbors as dangerous, misguided and even disloyal to God. The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that you can't go back to an earlier stage but must press on eagerly to that is yet to come. Our weekly studies will be based on NT Wright's materials, we hope to find encouragement and assurance that pressing on, even in the face of such close and constant pressure to fall back, is its own reward.
Observing our sacred duty for social distance, we'll be meeting exclusively online - at least initially. From March 26-April 16, we'll meet at 10:30 a.m. online at https://zoom.us/j/8796465039 or call in by dialing (669) 900-6833 with Meeting ID: 879 646 5039

Pastor Aaron's 10th Anniversary

This coming June will mark Aaron Roberts' 10th anniversary as Colonial's pastor. To celebrate this occasion the Council is planning recognition of Aaron's service following the 8:30 and 10:15 a.m. worship services on June 7.

We will present Aaron with a special gift as well as funding for sabbatical and/or continuing education purposes. Anyone wishing to contribute to this effort is invited to make a donation through Heather at the church office, designating the gift "Aaron's 10th." Thank you for helping to honor Aaron.
