COVID-19 “Test to Treat” Locations Now Open in Contra Costa
|
|
At Test to Treat locations, people will be tested for COVID-19. If someone tests positive and treatments are appropriate for them, they may receive a treatment prescription from a health care provider. These medications (antiviral pills) treat COVID-19 and are free of cost.
A Test to Treat website with participating site locations is in development with an anticipated launch later this month. Contra Costa currently has identified two locations:
You must have symptoms and make an appointment for testing at one of these locations, as per CVS. If you test positive, they have a doctor on site who can go over your health background (medications, health conditions, etc.) to determine if an oral antiviral medication is a good option for you, and will write a prescription on the spot that the pharmacy can fill.
Contra Costa Health encourages you to get in touch with your healthcare provider if you test positive to ask about treatment options, especially if you are 50 or older or have health conditions that put you at higher risk from a COVID infection.
Oral antiviral medications, such as Paxlovid, can be obtained at local pharmacies with a prescription from a provider. These medications can reduce an infected person’s risk of hospitalization by nearly 90%, but in order to be effective treatment must begin within five days of testing positive
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center & Health Centers patients, people on Medi-Cal and the uninsured who have recently tested positive can call the County’s advice nurse at (800) 485- 8885 to be evaluated for treatment by a provider. The test result can be from a lab or from an over-the-counter home test. Those with private health insurance should contact their regular healthcare provider about treatment options.

Now Accepting Proposals for Animal Benefit Fund Contracts
|
|
There are three areas of funding available to qualified groups: Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) is soliciting proposals from qualified and experienced nonprofit agencies to receive Animal Benefit Fund funding to provide needed services for Contra Costa County pets.
Deadline for submitting RFPs: April 30, 2022
Medical Assistance Program ($21,000 Available)
This program is for medical assistance and emergency veterinary care for animals that are in the Contra Costa County and/or animals that have been accepted into the shelter's care.
Shelter Intervention Program ($21,000 Available)
Often, Contra Costa County families in a crisis turn to surrendering their pet to a shelter due to lack of financial resources. The intervention program helps to provide resources to keep animals in their homes. Examples of intervention tools: spay/neuter, behavior training assistance, fence repair and grooming. This program may also be used to help domestic violence victims or seniors on limited incomes to keep their pets in their lives when they may otherwise have had to consider relinquishment due to lack of funds for basic daily needs or medical concerns.
Spay Neuter and Wellness Program ($150,000 Available)
This program would make spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchips more affordable and accessible in Contra Costa County. Contra Costa Animal Services will accomplish this by establishing partnerships and developing programs to reach into the areas of our county in greatest need, targeting the species/breeds of animals most likely to be found in our shelter, and supporting healthy community cats through TNR/RTF (Trap-Neuter-Return / Return- To-Field) and Working Cat Adoptions.
