Another outstanding Itineraries Science Talk at First Flight! ✈️

Cory Sanderson is VP of Technology at Sustaera leading technology and engineering development. They are developing and aiming to deploy a direct air capture of CO2 technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere to reduce historical and hard to abate carbon emissions using solid sorbent and integrated resistive heating.

Sustaera is tackling a huge global problem in a tremendously creative way. Bravo!👏🏻
First Flight Venture Center hosted Frontier Nursing Case Day

Students, faculty, and staff gathered to share healthcare cases from their clinical education. Led by faculty member Michelle Lawhorn, students present lessons learned and evaluations, receiving valuable feedback from the group.

NEW Propeller Cohort Starting Soon!

Propeller is a 6-week entrepreneurial design thinking program that helps founders and
entrepreneurs determine whether there is sufficient value to pursue a product or
service idea. The program helps entrepreneurs identify potential markets, develop a
path to market strategy, and learn how to communicate the value of the idea to early
stakeholders and adopters.

John Kesselring, CO, MSPO, is a dynamic professional at the forefront of the biotechnology and healthcare sectors, specializing in prosthetics and orthotics, with a distinguished career spanning clinical practice, education, and consultancy. Holding a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Appalachian State University, John's foundation in medical science is robust and well-rounded. His journey began in clinical settings, where his work at leading U.S. research and clinical groups honed his skills in patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration and further transitioned to Director of Clinical Education at a major international medical device manufacturer allowing him to leverage his clinical expertise in curriculum development, business development, and strategic leadership. He is excited to share this expertise in Orthotics and Prosthetics in this session.

Flipping Homes to Carbon Negative with Plantd

Dr. Janel Ohletz shares how Plantd developed perennial grass crops for use as a carbon-capturing resource that can be processed in Plantd's innovative, small footprint manufacturing lines to create durable carbon negative building materials.
2024 F.A.S.T. SBIR/STTR Boot Camp

DATE: Thursday, May 16, 2024 - Friday, May 17, 2024

LOCATION: In Person at First Flight Venture Center, 2 Davis Drive, Durham, NC 27709

35 science-focused startup companies will again be selected for a cohort to attend a 2 Day training program to receive strategic guidance matching company’s technology to appropriate agency, targeted support to submit a competitive Phase I SBIR/STTR application during the 2023 calendar year and business coaching from “Startup Advisors” serial entrepreneurs, investors and SBIR grant writing experts. FAST PLUS = 21 selected companies will receive an additional 5-13 hours of 1-1 grant writing support post Boot Camp. Panel presentations will also be incorporated around how to obtain funding from the Department of Defense.

The deadline to sign up is April 19, 2024!
