St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
Dear St. Rita Parents/Guardians,

We have had a very busy March with many activities in which our students have been involved. We are very proud of all their accomplishments and would like to recognize a few of our wonderful students. Congratulations to our JV Girls Basketball team who will be representing the Archdiocese of Hartford at the New England Basketball tournament this weekend in Manchester, New Hampshire. The girl’s first game is Saturday at 8:30 in Manchester, NH. More details can be found at the NHCYO.com website. Our cheerleaders will be participating in a Cheer-fest this weekend at St. Bridget School in Cheshire. Their competition begins at 12 noon and there is $3 charge at the door.

Last weekend Maggie Rogers was the only St. Rita student to participate in the CT Future Musicians All-State Band Concert at CCSU. Maggie who participated in the Symphonic Band (the highest level band) was one of 185 students from Connecticut who participated in the event. Also, congratulations to Adriana Dorsi who was named the grand prize winner of the CT Elks Club Drug Awareness Poster Contest. Her poster will be entered into the nationwide Elks Club for possible publication in their drug awareness coloring book. And finally, thank you to our wonderful chorus who sang while Fr. Sharkey celebrated TV Mass at the Office of Radio and TV station in Prospect today. You can view the taped Mass on the ORTV website. We have much to be proud of from our wonderful and talented students.

Last evening the St. Rita School Board held its first Meet & Mingle session for parents new to our school over the past two years. Parents and board members shared their vision for the future of St. Rita School. This event was a starting point as we begin to develop our strategic plan, one of the major recommendations from our NEASC accreditation visit. Future events are being planned to include veteran families as well. Last night I shared with the group two projects which we plan to undertake in the next few months-creating an outdoor classroom behind our building and also a Maker-space within our library. More details will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Finally, if you have not sent in your re-enrollment packet please do so. In order for staffing to be determined our enrollment numbers need to be finalized. We ask that you return the completed tuition agreement and $150 per student non-refundable deposit to the school office as soon as possible as the deadline has passed. Once you re-register you will receive an email from the Smart Tuition Program regarding your account. If you are applying for financial aid the on-line Smart Aid (tuition assistance) application will be available beginning in May. Please call or email Mrs. Paula Nugent, school business manager with any questions regarding your tuition account.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Have a great week and enjoy the Spring sunshine!

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Playground Guidelines
St. Rita School is lucky to have two playgrounds for use by our students.
The new playground, located at the far end of the school parking lot, is
designed for students in grades Kindergarten to grade 5. Beginning this
week the playground will be opened for student use (K to gr.5) after
school from 3:00 to 3:30.
The second playground is located at the back of the building and is for
the use of students in Pre-Kindergarten 3 and 4 only. This is also
opened for student use (Pre-K) after school from 3:00 to 3:30. As this
particular playground is designed for children under age 5 and is limited
to no more than 12 children, we are asking parents to please adhere to
these limitations for your child’s safety.
Each afternoon at 3:30 both playgrounds will be available for use by
students attending the After-Care Program ONLY.

Experience  Excelsior— Saturdays @ SHA  offers girls in grades 5 to 8 an opportunity to experience the serious fun of learning without the extraneous pressure of formal grades, putting them in contact with ways of thinking, seeing, and doing that challenge them to reflect deeply and think critically. The program is filled with workshops and activities that promise to inform, engage, and entertain participating students while they make new friends.

Two sessions have been planned—Saturday, March 23, and Saturday, March 30, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am on the Sacred Heart campus, 265 Benham Street, Hamden. The program will be led by experienced faculty with the assistance of current students. Middle school girls are welcome to attend either one or both sessions.

  • March 30 – STEM Saturday: Participants will use Math, Science, and programming skills to find clues that lead them to learn about trailblazing women who forged new paths, not only in STEM fields, but in business, entertainment, and everyday life. Structured as an Escape Room, students will solve math puzzles, perform science experiments and write programs, using their knowledge and logic to break free.
