Battle of the Books
Hello from the ICS Library!
We had 63 students on a record-setting 13 teams competing in our annual Battle of the Books Building challenge this year! The competition was fierce and the top teams were within mere points for the win. I am so proud of all participants! They were well prepared for the challenge and demonstrated great teamwork. The results:
First Place: The Runaways (Sia Gupta, Riya Kulkarni, Hamsini Gudipati, Varsha Vaddi, Hadassah Ho and Mahee Chandrasekhar): They will be representing us at the District Challenge on March 29 at Kirkland Middle.
Second place team The Frogs (Rosha Roudaki, Melody Sakiya and Margot Kleinpeter)
Third place was a tie between The Book Warriors (William Huang, Zach Guan, Guru Vidhyashankar, Vihaan Rawal, Elijah Crowley and Hugo Hautakangas) and The Orcas (Sneha Ahah, Ishya Dinesh and Sarannya Dey).
Thank you to our NHS student judges Giacomo Coltorti, Kaylee Allen, Lili Toth and Noa Avitan and our amazing parent judges!
We are already working on next year’s list of books—can’t wait to share these with students in June. Meanwhile, our Project Lit Book Club will be open for middle school students after Spring Break.
Thanks for supporting the library!

Gift Cards Needed for Senior Class Graduation
This is an easy way to pick up some hours and helps the graduating seniors have an amazing grad night party. Click here for the sign-up link.
The PTSA is covering the graduation party venue and entertainment for the evening, however, we are in need of gift card donations for food and prizes for the senior class graduation party. We are asking for specific gift cards to make our event successful. You can sign up for as many spots as you would like. Please only purchase the gift cards listed on the sign-up link. We are suggesting a one hour of volunteer time per slot. Please email volunteer@icsptsa.org with questions.
You can mail the gift cards to the school (see address and contact below) or have your child drop off the gifts card(s) in the office with Mammona Zia.

Journeying to “Drop Off”
Beep Beep! It may seem silly that ICS cares so much about drop off and pick up but in truth it is safety and mutual respect are the essence of our community. Families come from the four corners of our district and not all have bus service. This calls parents and students to action by driving to the school. We gather on our journeys to the school in the neighborhood and not all are taking heed to the map and making things chaotic which decreases safety. It may feel like mayhem when we get there. Yet, it doesn’t have to feel this way. We are people who can intentionally show love and respect for one another to make the school safe. One mom at school said this about the parking situation – comments in parenthesis after:
A few things I have noticed about cars that take 112th St:
1. Some are “bullies”. They do not wait for cars to turn into the school and will push their way across the street and into the school. (stop this)
2. Some cars are politer and wait for a few cars in the main line to turn right into the school then insert themselves when there is a natural gap in the car flow. (people should not be driving straight into the school that is not the traffic route – think safety and respect)
3. Some cars drop off their kids a few car lengths back from the stop sign. The car turns right at the stop sign instead of going into the school. The student hurries across the crosswalk. (This holds up traffic, adds to chaos, and marginalizes safety)
4. Some cars are driven by students. They go down the center aisle and park. (They should be following on the left side of the parents who drop off)
Please view the Traffic Map for student drop off and pick up.

ICS International Cookbook
"Food may not be the answer to world peace, but it's a start." -Anthony Bourdain
We are launching our first ever ICS International Cookbook, and we need your recipes! Everyone knows a foodie in their house and/or someone who cooks amazing food and loves to share it. In many cultures, food is more than just sustenance for the body. Food is seen as something that ties people together through fellowship, love/care, and good times. With COVID being something that has shaken up everyone’s lives, we have not been able to share meals with our loved ones, friends, and/or coworkers. However, through sharing recipes we can have a little of that feeling back, even if it is by making the recipe ourselves.
We are fortunate to have families from around the world, so we would like to give everyone an opportunity to contribute. Please fill out the ICS International Cookbook form, and be a part of this initiative. Deadline is April 30. Buon Appetito! Questions? Email Mireille Baumoel at mbaumoel@icsptsa.org.
