MARCH 27 COVID-19 UPDATE:
Home Learning & Extended School Closure

Dear Concord Hill Families;

Typically, on the last Friday of Spring Break, many families are preparing to return home after traveling for the week, or thinking of ways to squeeze in one (or more) final local outings with family and friends. As we all know, this past week was anything but a typical spring break. However, in light of the ongoing cancellations and rearrangements of everyday life, I am grateful for the time I was able to spend at home with my family.

In our household we focused on getting Dennison Academy up and running, as we added helpful routines and structure to our days. We also enjoyed time as a family to play games, zoom around the neighborhood countless times on scooters, explore the nearby creek, and take in more than a few movies together. Amanda and the kids were kind enough to give me some time to work on a couple projects on the house. While the world around us continues to feel unsettling, I have been trying to build in some personal daily routines to focus on what I can control, staying grounded in the many things for which I am grateful. I hope your family found new and old ways to enjoy your spring break, making the most of the situation, and I hope you are eager to jump into the Concord Hill Home Learning program next week. Please read on for the latest updates.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
CHS Spring Events
We continue to look to public health officials, safety experts, colleagues, and community for guidance during these uncertain times. As the safety of our community is our highest priority, we must focus on our students and their wellbeing. In the interim, however, we have decided to postpone the following events. Please look for additional updates in the coming weeks:

  • THU–FRI, APR 16 & 17: 3rd Grade Camping Trip

  • FRI, APR 17: CHS Celebration: Family Campout

  • SAT, APR 25: CHS Children's Fair

  • SAT, APR 25: CHS Celebration: Casino Night

THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING
All of us are being urged to do what we can to mitigate and contain the spread of COVID-19. We hope you and your families will understand that, by practicing social distancing, we are helping to contain the spread of COVID-19 and hopefully expedite the timeline of when we can return to school.
THE COMING WEEKS
We will continue to monitor the situation closely, making decisions informed by the social distancing requirements necessary to flatten the curve, along with guidance from the federal and state governments, as well as working closely with peer schools and the Association of Independent Schools Greater Washington.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We miss seeing your faces, and look forward to rolling out our Home Learning Program on Tuesday, March 31. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Nate Dennison
