Dear Maria Student,

I hope you are doing well and are staying safe and healthy. I want to commend you, and your classmates, on how well you have handled the last few weeks through this transition to fully online classes and learning. Maria students are smart, adaptive, and resilient – traits that have no doubt served you and your community well in this crisis.

Speaking to our faculty and staff, know that we all look forward to when we can have you back on campus again in person, but given the situation it’s best not to rush that and we will continue to put your safety first. We are all thinking of you, and you can reach out at any time if there is anything we can do to help.

Here is the latest information on the College’s response to the dynamic Covid-19 situation. Thank you for your cooperation and responsiveness as we work through the guidance and direction from New York State.

Clarifying College Campus Access for Students:

  • We understand there may have been some confusion among students with the recent communication that addressed campus access.

  • The campus access update emailed on 3/26 was specifically for faculty and staff who were requesting guidance on when and how they could get to campus to perform some limited tasks like producing video content for courses, processing refund checks, and other essential tasks that can only be done on campus.

  • Students should not come to campus as all courses in the Spring Semester of 2020 are being taught entirely remotely and online. Students will not be required to come to campus for teaching or learning purposes, and all administrative offices at the college are operating remotely.

  • We will continue to update you as the situation develops, but know that the plan for students and online coursework for the Spring 2020 semester will not change.

  • The health and safety of our community is our top priority during this time. You can continue to protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:
  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
  • Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell.
  • Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean.

Thank you for your continued cooperation. Stay healthy and we look forward to seeing everyone as soon as is feasible.
