March 28, 2019
Last March, at the invitation of our D.S. Rev. Susan Brims, Dayspring was invited to begin a conversation of expanding itself into a current United Methodist Church that was close to the end of its lifecycle. A team was designated to discern and explore what this might look like. This team includes, Regina Walker, David Barnhouse, Amy Notbohm, Ed Johnson and Pastors Joel Bullock and Jeff Procter-Murphy. The Elijah team is excited to share with Dayspring a new ministry opportunity that we are calling Dayspring Arcadia. Please come to one of the congregational meetings to find out more on Sunday, March 31 at 11:45am in the Fellowship Hall or Monday, April 1 at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. Additional meetings will be held for those who cannot attend. Learn more .
This Sunday, March 31, is UMCOR Sunday (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing). A special offering will be taken. This offering is important because it covers the administrative needs of the UMCOR organization so, when an emergency occurs, 100 percent of disaster response donations are directed to where they are most needed. Join artist Vanessa Lueck, as she demonstrates how to make Ukrainian Easter Eggs following both services on Sunday March 31 and April 7. Sign up for a hands-on workshop or purchase one of the eggs already made. The workshop will also be held April 7 from 1:00-3:00pm in the Adult Room. The cost of the workshop and/or purchase of the pre-made eggs supports youth participating in this summer’s Sierra Service Project mission trip.
This Sunday, March 31, all children's and youth volunteers are required to attend an Emergency Response Training at either 9:00, 10:30, or 11:30 in Room 201. This session will include a brief review of our safe sanctuaries policies and detailed training on our emergency response plan.  Light refreshments will be served. All Sunday school teachers, formation teachers, and program coordinators must participate in this training.  If you absolutely cannot attend on Sunday, please email Emily or Jennine .
This past week, Pastor Michael Kelley announced that
after 37 years as Minister of Music he is retiring effective September 1, 2019. Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) assures the Dayspring community they will keep you informed as we move forward with our search for filling Michael’s position. This will not be an easy task as Michael not only is an accomplished musician, but he also produced and directed an outstanding music ministry. A committee will be formed to develop and implement the selection and hiring of Michael’s replacement(s). His input will be an integral component of this process. It is easy to say that no one person can replace what Michael has done for us and provides for us. The SPRC goal in this process is to preserve the scope and quality of our existing music ministries program.
