Message from President Sara Beacham

|
Greetings!
Yahoo! It’s conference time. After two years of not having a conference, the Sierra Nevada Region Conference is a go. I am super excited to reconnect with my fellow Soroptimists IRL at the Atlantis in Reno, NV. There are about 10-11 of our own club attending this year. What a great turnout for our club! If you are going to conference and still need a ride, contact Janet Earl. If you want to go, you still have time to register. We will help you find a roommate. And…if you are attending conference, come join me in my room for a pre-conference SUDS from 4:00-5:15 pm before heading down to the cocktail reception on Friday night. I will text out my room number once we get checked in.
The following weekend is my big weekend. I say “my” big weekend because two projects that I have been working on for the club happen on the same weekend. My President’s Project, Advocate for Great, the live event and Dream It, Be It are happening Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9. Advocate for Great only has two sign ups so far and enough room for 50. Please help spread the word to the 20-something females in your life. Catherine Calarco is our keynote speaker. She is a world leader, speaker, vice president, and former SI Chico scholarship winner. There will also be a Mentor Panel with four women leaders in business that will share their insights and take questions from the audience. The link to register for this FREE event is www.tinyurl.com/Advocate4Great. The event is Friday, April 8 at 5:30 pm at the Chico Women’s Club.
Dream It, Be It registration is going gang-busters. We have 37 high school girls signed up for this one-day conference at Chico Women’s Club on April 9. This is more than four times our previous years’ impact. SI Bidwell Rancho chair, Babette Maiss, and I have worked hard with our DIBI committees to bring this one-day conference to life. We are super excited! Please consider volunteering on the day of the conference:
In other news, I am so sad to report that one of our past Presidents passed away peacefully on Friday. Past President Sydney Thompson was president in 2011- 2012. She will be greatly missed.
We have a free week this week. Enjoy your time until we meet on April 6 for our business meeting. If you’re wondering about the lunch meetings for next year, the motion carried via email votes. Thank you for responding so quickly. We are now waiting to get the signed contract from Canyon Oaks Country Club. President-Elect Kathy is working on this. Any questions about next year’s meetings should be directed to her. Thanks, again, SI Chico for being so responsive and willing to make changes.
See you at conference!
President Sara

Spring Home & Garden Show
April 2, 2022 - April 3, 2022
Per our contract agreement with Andrew Coolidge it is that time of year to volunteer at the Spring Home & Garden Show at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds April 2nd & April 3rd.
We will be working the entrance booths at the Event (staffed from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on both Saturday and Sunday with four club representatives per shift, plus two club representatives taking tickets). SI Chico members will wear Soroptimist logoed shirts or aprons.
SI Chico will have a Soroptimist welcome booth at no cost to our club as long as we fulfill the contractual agreement with Andrew Coolidge. We will also recieve $3,000 to use next year during Kathy's year. We will set up and decorate the booth on Saturday morning prior to the opening of the show. SI Chico members working the last shift of the show will help tear down the booth at the end of the show. Click here to sign up or click on the H&G photo above.
Please Note: Our SI Chico booth will be setup so people can help themselves, meaning our booth doesn't need volunteers to run it; however, the entrance booths and ticket takers do need volunteers.
If you have signed up for our SI Chico Booth, please consider changing to one of the available slots below.
Available slots:
04/03/2022 (Sun.) 9:30am - 12:00pm Entrance Booth - 3 of 4 slots filled
04/03/2022 (Sun.) 12:00pm - 2:30pm Ticket Takers - 1 of 2 slots filled
04/03/2022 (Sun.) 2:30pm - 5:30pm Entrance Booth - 3 of 4 slots filled
If you have trouble signing up, please let me know and I'll be happy to sign you up.

March Fur Baby and Member of the Month - Riley & Amy Griffin
Meet Riley, an 8-month-old pup that belongs to new member Amy Griffin and her husband Michael. Amy didn’t want a dog but finally said yes to this adorable labradoodle after much convincing from her family. She has since fallen in love.
Amy teaches at Chico State and loves skiing, mountain biking and scuba diving. Her and her husband recently became empty nesters. They have two wonderful daughters Kallie and Aisling in their 20s that live in Reno.
