Mike Bauer, head boys basketball coach at Saint Joseph High School, has decided to step down to spend more time with his family.
In Bauer's five years as head coach, the Indians compiled a 77-44 record and advanced to the regional final of the state tournament in 2014 and 2015.
"We are so appreciative of the time Mike devoted to our basketball program," said Saint Joseph athletic director Debbie Brown. "The time demands of coaching are great, and we understand and support his decision to spend more time with his family."
"As my family grows I need to reevaluate how I spend my time," Bauer said. "I am truly thankful that Saint Joseph gave me an opportunity to coach basketball, but at this time I need to be able to spend more quality moments with my wife and daughters. I have been blessed to coach some great young men during my 10 years at St. Joe, and I wish nothing but the best to the current group of players as they strive to reach their goals."
In addition to the five years as the head coach, Bauer spent an additional five years in the program, serving as the freshman assistant for two years, the varsity assistant for two years and the junior varsity head coach for one year.
A search for a new coach will begin immediately.
