Child and Family Well-Being Insights
All children deserve equal access to services to prevent or respond to maltreatment. A development plan, co-funded by The Duke Endowment and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of South Carolina, provides recommendations to remove barriers and expand access to Children's Advocacy Centers, which help coordinate the investigation, treatment, and prosecution of incidents of child maltreatment.
Improving child well-being in the United States requires increasing national investment in children by rebalancing existing public resources, according to a new report. It was developed by a group of experts from across academic disciplines and the political spectrum, convened by the American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institution. The report describes the state of childhood in the United States, assembles evidence on policy effectiveness, and establishes a set of priorities for progress.
The pandemic exacerbated existing issues affecting South Carolina children and created new ones. The Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children developed its 2022 Annual Report, which offers policy solutions in three areas: children’s mental health, juvenile justice reform, and child well-being. The recommendations are informed by testimony during statewide public hearings from parents, constituents, and professionals.
