Pastor Trudy's Weekend Message
An extravagant gift! How do you respond when someone gives you an unexpected gift? Do you make proclamations of your unworthiness or do you receive it with grace? Mary takes an expensive ointment of pure nard and anoints Jesus' feet with it while at dinner. The whole house fills with the fragrance. Jesus receives it as a sign of love, not just Mary's love, but in gratitude for the love Jesus showed when He raised her brother from the dead. Not everyone sees it as a loving act...in fact, there is one at the table who sees it as a sign of wastefulness.
Generous God, You pour out love in more ways than we can count and yet often we resist the extravagance of Your gifts. Help us to live in response to Your generosity, in Jesus' name. Amen
