6.1 Regulatory Compliance for Managers - RRC CEU

What continuing education classes can Category E Managers take?

Speaking of the Railroad Commission, our second story covers a major game of political musical chairs happening at the state level—one that could impact the Railroad Commission’s leadership. You’ll want to read what’s in motion and who might be moving where.

Thirdly, we preview two key TPGA events: the Tom Garner Memorial Bowling Tournament, benefiting the LPG Charity Fund, and the May 2025 TPGA Board & Committee Meetings in Austin—both great opportunities to connect and engage with fellow industry professionals.

Additionally, we spotlight important sponsorship opportunities for the May meetings and remind you to RSVP to ensure your seat at the table.

Finally, don’t miss our always-useful Quick Links section, featuring weekly propane price updates, access to the Propane Service Corporation store, career listings on the GeneratioNext job board, and details on the now-open TPGA Texas Scholarship Program application round.

What Class Can Texas Managers Take for Continuing Education?

If you're a manager certified with the Railroad Commission, you might be wondering whether you're required to take the 6.1 Regulatory Compliance for Managers course to meet your continuing education (CE) requirement with the Commission.

Does the Commission recommend it?

Yes.

Is it required to take the 6.1 continuing education course?

No.

According to Section 9.52(f)(5) of the LP-Gas Safety Rules, managers may take the 6.1 Regulatory Compliance for Managers course or any one of the CE courses listed under paragraphs (1) through (4) of the same subsection.

Those courses are:

• 4.1 – Dispenser Operations

• 4.2 – Service and Installation

• 4.3 – Bobtail Delivery

• 4.4 – Recreational Vehicle Technician

While the Commission strongly encourages managers to take the 6.1 course, which was designed specifically for their role, it is acceptable to take one of the other four CE courses if the 6.1 is not available.

The next 6.1 class is on April 25, 2025. A few spots remain.

Musical Chairs: Commission News

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has been officially confirmed as the next chancellor of the Texas A&M University System following a unanimous vote by the university’s Board of Regents. Hegar, who has served as Texas Comptroller since 2015, will assume the role on July 1, succeeding Chancellor John Sharp after his planned retirement on June 30.

This impending vacancy has prompted early announcements from two prominent Republicans vying for the comptroller's office. Christi Craddick, chair of the Texas Railroad Commission, declared her candidacy, emphasizing her commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficient governance. She highlighted her tenure at the commission, noting achievements in managing operations with transparency and common sense, principles she aims to bring to the comptroller's office.

Former State Senator Don Huffines has also entered the race, pledging to address wasteful spending and enhance government efficiency. Huffines, who represented a Dallas district from 2015 to 2019 and ran in the 2022 Republican gubernatorial primary, promises to be a vigilant watchdog over state finances.

The Texas Propane Gas Association, regulated by the Railroad Commission, has worked extensively with Craddick during her leadership. Her potential move to the comptroller's office raises the question of who will replace her as railroad commissioner if elected as Comptroller.
