Week of March 31

Aloha,

Spring Break is over, and we have only 7 weeks left of the 2025 Spring Semester. How time flies!

We will hold our 60th Commencement at KCC on May 16. Please check this link for more information if you are graduating.

For our continuing students, the University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges are making summer learning more accessible and affordable by aligning summer tuition rates with tuition rates for the fall and spring semesters. For $131 per credit for Hawaiʻi residents, students can stay on track, explore new interests, or accelerate their path to graduation.

KCC’s mission to offer accessible education to our greater community continues with our fundraising effort for the Ho’olei scholarship, which will offer every senior graduating from a public or charter school on Kaua‘i the first year at KCC tuition-free.

Mahalo to our faculty and staff for your continued contributions to the success of our students and campus.

Mahalo,

Kauaʻi Community College Chancellor

Margaret Sanchez

Hawaiʻi Foodbank Kauaʻi Food Drive

The Hawaiʻi Foodbank has kicked off its Annual State Employees Food Drive, which runs through May 9, 2025.  According to The State of Food Insecurity in Hawai‘i 2023 study conducted by the Hawai‘i Foodbank, the issue of food insecurity certainly hits home for many of our students. The study found that 49% of young adults ages 18-29 were most affected by food insecurity, and concurrently, 44% of those currently enrolled in higher education were food insecure. Throughout the years, the Hawai‘i Foodbank has distributed food to the various campus food pantries across the University of Hawai‘i (UH) System, with 819,082 pounds of food distributed, so a donation to the Hawai‘i Foodbank is a donation to help those in our student population and others needing assistance and support.  Hawaiʻi Foodbank supplies the food for our on-campus food pantry in the library.

The Anat Cohen Quartetinho

Sunday, April 6 | 6 p.m.

GRAMMY-nominated multireedist and composer Anat Cohen shifts her focus to an intimate group sound on her newest release, the endlessly colorful Quartetinho (pronounced “quar-te-CHIN-yo,” i.e., little quartet).

The group of New York-based international multi-instrumentalist-virtuosos are all drawn from the ranks of her GRAMMY-nominated Tentet featuring bassist Tal Mashiach, pianist/accordionist Vitor Gonçalves, and vibraphonist/percussionist James Shipp. They share a deep love for music in all its heterogeneity and it’s all amply documented on Quartetinho, which includes originals by Cohen, Mashiach, and Shipp along with material by the great masters Antonio Carlos Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, and more. The result is boundlessly melodic and lyrical, with a wide array of timbres and subtle details of orchestration.
