St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

Dear St. Rita School Parents,

Last week I shared with you some of Pope Francis’ words for the Lenten season and I share them with the students daily. During this first few weeks of Lent we are concentrating on fasting from hurtful words and saying only kind words, fasting from sadness and being filled with gratitude, fasting from anger and being filled with patience, and finally fasting from being discouraged and being filled with hope. By concentrating on only a few of these concepts we hope to get our students to think beyond themselves and to focus on kindness, goodness, and mercy for all. We hope you can join us in our fast.
During this Lenten season, our students in grades 2-8 will be receiving the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, also called confession. In confession we meet the Lord, who wants to grant forgiveness and the grace to live a renewed life in Him. All churches in the Archdiocese of Hartford during the season of Lent are making it easier for Catholics to experience God’s love and mercy in this sacrament. All Catholic churches will be open for Confessions every Monday during Lent from 6 to 7 P.M.

Congratulations to Mr. Banas who is being recognized and honored by his former students, currently freshmen at Xavier High School, for his dedication and commitment to education. Also congratulations to Liam K., Dominic F., and Kiera B. . who participated in the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee held this past Sunday. Liam finished in 2 nd place, Kiera in 3 rd place, and Dominic in 4 th place, for their respective grade levels. Also, congratulations to Matt H. who came in first place in the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest, and Lucas P. who will represent St. Rita in the statewide Geography Bee competition at CCSU on March 27. Finally, good luck to our Varsity girls, 8 th grade Varsity boys, and 6 th grade JV boys basketball teams as they move on to state tournament level play beginning this weekend.

Due to the latest news about the Coronavirus, please take a moment to
read the following update that was shared with a neighboring school system.
We are doing everything possible here at St. Rita to prevent the spread of germs.
Please help us by keeping your child home if they are sick.

I encourage you to educate yourself about the virus at the Centers for Disease Control at this link:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html . There are information guides available in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that you take the following precautions to prevent spread of the virus:

· Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

· Stay home when you are sick.

· Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

· Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a
regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

· Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.

· CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

· Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19
to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks
is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of
someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds,
especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after
blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

· If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand
sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap
and water if hands are visibly dirty.

In collaboration with the Health Department, we will continue to monitor
this situation and keep you updated.
