This Week: Spring Ahead this Weekend! Mayor take the Plunge, Capital Projects Update

Mayors Message

As we move closer to spring, there’s a lot of momentum building in our village!

First, a quick update — beginning this week, the Monday Nyacker will now be delivered on Wednesdays. We’re shifting to a midweek release to better capture timely updates and keep everyone informed as the week unfolds. We hope this change makes it even easier to stay connected.

Don’t forget — clocks “spring ahead” this weekend. Be sure to set your clocks forward one hour on Sunday and enjoy the extra evening daylight that comes with it. It’s a sure sign that brighter days are ahead.

Speaking of bright moments, the Penguin Plunge was an incredible success! Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines. Together, our Rockland County community raised significant funds to support Kelsey, Logan and Bryce as they battle serious health challenges. I’m especially proud to share that the Mayor’s Team raised $1,700 toward that effort.

I also want to thank our Nyack DPW Superintendent Jon Abrams and team for their incredible work during the Blizzard of ’26 and all the storms this winter! The cost of these storms creates a significant impact to our village budget, however, that is part of our budget planning. Our preliminary tally of the Blizzard of '26 budget is nearing $80,000!

Our Spring Events Guide will be coming out soon, filled with activities and opportunities to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the season together. And believe it or not, we are just 39 days away from our first Street Fair! Planning is well underway, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for another fantastic season of events.

Have a great week!

Capital Projects Updates

This spring will bring the start — and continuation — of several important capital improvement projects throughout the Village aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving safety, and enhancing community spaces.

Orange & Rockland Gas Main Replacement

Orange and Rockland Utilities will begin replacing a gas main on Depew Avenue from Franklin Street to Route 9W. Work is expected to last approximately two months. Residents in the area can anticipate construction activity and possible temporary traffic adjustments during this time.

High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Improvement Project

The High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Improvement Project is scheduled to begin the week of March 9, 2026. This FEMA-funded project, part of recovery efforts related to the September 2021 storm including remnants of Hurricane Ida, will install a new drainage pipe along High Avenue. The new system will disconnect an existing drainage line that currently runs beneath several homes and redirect it to the culvert drainage system on Franklin Street near the Catherine Street area.

Sidewalk Improvements & Neighborhood Repaving

The sidewalk project on First Avenue and Franklin Street will wrap up this spring. Once completed, that neighborhood will be repaved, providing a smoother and safer roadway for residents.

Safe Routes to Nyack Middle School Project

The Safe Routes to Nyack Middle School sidewalk project is expected to be awarded to the winning bidder in April 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in the spring or summer. This important project will enhance pedestrian safety and improve walkability for students and families traveling to and from the school.

Memorial Park Shoreline Project

A major enhancement is also planned for Memorial Park, where construction will begin on a beautiful new walkway connecting the viewing pier to the pedestrian bridge. The project will include amenities and landscaping designed to create a welcoming and accessible waterfront experience for residents and visitors alike.

We look forward to these improvements and thank our community for its continued support as we invest in the Village’s infrastructure and public spaces.
