“Striving & Thriving: Youth Sunday”
The Rev. Kimberlee Tomczak Carlson
Minister of Religious Education
Tristan Strelitzer, Choral Director
Gus Pointer Mace, Worship Associate

One year has passed since our world and daily lives have been changed by the pandemic. We have asked our youth to share with the congregation through video, prose, and images how the pandemic has affected their lives. What is it like to be a teenager today during this time of upheaval and unknowing? How have they continued to thrive and what are their aspirations for our future?

SUNDAY MORNING FORUM AT 11:00 A.M.

Sojourner Family Peace Center, presented by Liz Marquardt: Senior Director of Data Analytics, Grants, and Compliance.

Our community is hurting. At the end of 2019 and throughout 2020 there was a dramatic increase in domestic violence homicides and calls to the police for abuse related crimes. Liz Marquardt will discuss how to recognize domestic abuse and what you can do to respond. The conversation will include information about the dynamics of abuse, the impact on families, and risk factors for homicide. We will review Sojourner’s new “Know Your Risk” outreach message and discuss how you can uplift the message, support survivors, and make our community safer. She has been speaking to audiences about recognizing, and responding to, domestic violence throughout her 33 years at the agency. On Zoom & YouTube Live HERE
MARCH SHARE THE PLATE. Every spring, our Religious Education Program youth members choose an organization to receive Share the Plate donations. The Milwaukee Center for Children and Youth (MCCY) is our March Share the Plate recipient. Their mission is to ‘End the suffering of abused children in Milwaukee County through comprehensive advocacy, education, and supportive services that heal trauma, build resilience, nurture the ability to thrive, and create a path toward eradicating the epidemic of child abuse in our community.” To learn more about this organization and to make a monetary donation to the Milwaukee Center for Children and Youth, please see their website at https://www.mccy.org.
APPLY TO BECOME A WORSHIP ASSOCIATE BY MARCH 15. Worship Associates help lead our Sunday worship services, collaborating with the ministers to reflect on meaning and purpose. Worship Associates help develop Sunday themes for worship in monthly group meetings, then work 1-1 with the ministers to create a compelling story for Sunday morning. Worship Associates record stories in advance, and on Sunday morning moderate YouTube chat and attend Zoom Coffee Hour after the service. Worship Associates serve for two years, including during the summer, beginning with worship planning in May of the year they begin service. Learn more and apply online by March 15 to serve in the 2021 – 2023 cohort at http://uumilwaukee.org/ministers-and-leaders/worship-associates/.
30% ARE IN TOWARDS OUR ALL-IN PLEDGE GOAL. Join us this Sunday for an inspirational member testimonial, and All-In photo montage as we reach towards 100% participation in our annual Pledge Drive. Don’t forget to upload a photo for next week’s All-In! photo montage.
SANCTUARY REFLECTIONS - A PLACE TO BE AFTER CHURCH. As we continue to gather online only for church, we continue to offer time to share your thoughts and reflections after each service on Sundays. Sanctuary Reflections starts at 11:00 a.m. or thereabouts, and each person is asked three questions to respond to related to the service. Everyone is welcome. Here is where you can sign up to get the link to join on Zoom.

A perfect morning practice for the season of reflection and preparation, and for those who want to engage in something new rather than give something up. Bring you wisdom and reflections, and your pjs, coffee, and bagels! Friday mornings 8 a.m. during lent – March 12, 19 & 26. Drop-in any session or come to all of them. COVID CANDLE ON SUNDAYS. Because of the ways our lives are touched by loss and grief during the global pandemic, we have a simple ritual during Sunday worship called the “COVID Candle” when it is needed. During this unique time, when people cannot gather with their family and community to mourn, we offer to light the COVID Candle for any death of a loved one of one of our members. If you have had a loved one die from COVID-19, or any other cause of death, and would like the COVID Candle lit in their honor during Sunday worship, please contact one of the Ministers.
