The Importance of School Safety Drills

Recently, school safety drills for active shooters have come under fire for the potential trauma they may cause for students involved in them. In the article “School Safety Drills, Why We Should Continue to Practice Them,” Lt. Jon Quast of the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and Illini Bluffs School District Superintendent Dr. Roger Alvey explain the importance of continuing school safety drills. From preparedness and response benefits to feedback from students and parents, Lt. Quast and Dr. Alvey provide several key points as to why not only are drills important, but that they are ultimately necessary. To read the article, click here .
