IRS Raised the Pre-Tax Limit on Employer-Provided Commute Benefits
The Internal Revenue Service increased the pre-tax limit on employer-provided transit benefits for this year - including transit passes, vanpool fares, and qualified parking - to $300. That’s a $20 boost from the 2022 limit.
Employers can offer pre-tax transit subsidies to employees up to $300 and it does not affect the employees’ taxable income.
- Get Help (and Tax Credits): Montgomery County Commuter Services will work with employers’ HR/employee benefits staff to explain how to set up and administer a commuter benefits program.
The County’s FareShare program will reimburse the employer for any amount provided over the minimum $25 contribution, up to the full $300/month limit.
Plus, tax credits are available for employers offering commuter benefits through the Maryland Commuter Choice tax credit program.
