New Summer Schedule Under Consideration

Dayspring leadership is contemplating a combined Sunday service schedule at Tempe this summer (from Memorial Day Sunday, May 28th, to Labor Day Sunday, September 3rd).

The main rationale is to bring the congregation together while people travel, etc. This temporary change may also make it possible for leadership to serve at both campuses. Additionally, it might encourage people to attend at a different location from their usual one.

We will take an informal poll this Sunday and next at the beginning of both services in Tempe to see if folks would be able to attend at 9:30 or 10am. Our Sunday service at Arcadia will continue to be at 11am. If you aren’t able to be there on March 12 or 19, you are welcome to let the church office know if you would be willing to attend at 9:30 or 10am this summer.

WELCOMING OUR NEW BISHOP

You are invited to attend the Service of Installation of Bishop Carlo A. Rapanut on Saturday, March 11 at 11:00am at St. Matthew UMC (2540 West Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85202) with a reception following. The service will also be available via live stream and Zoom. Please register HERE for both in-person and online. Learn more

REMEMBERING ROGER SHEPHERD

A memorial service for Roger Shepherd will be held this Saturday, March 11, at 2:00pm in the Tempe Sanctuary. Please keep his wife Cindy, his family, and friends in your prayers during this difficult time. The service will be livestreamed HERE.

Condolences may be sent to:

NEWCOMERS' COFFEE

Newcomers to Dayspring are invited to Coffee with the Pastors, an informal “Ask Us (Almost) Anything” session on Sunday, March 12, at 11:45pm on the patio. Join us for a lively discussion!

VIP CIVIC ACADEMY

Join Arizona Students for Mental Health, Dayspring Church & Society, many other VIP congregations supporting mental health. Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church (901 W Erie St, Chandler) is hosting a Civic Academy event on Monday, March 13 from 6:30—8:00 pm.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

The first build date for our next house with Habitat for Humanity is March 18. The build site is near downtown Glendale. Start time is 7:30 on Saturdays and carpools are available. No construction experience is necessary. Email Mark for more information.

BORDERLANDS PRODUCE RESCUE

Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes of approximately 70lbs that we sell for $15. This is a great chance to spend time in the Arcadia neighborhood, interact with neighbors, reduce food waste and bring healthy food to local families. Our next event is March 18 from 6:00 - 11:00am. If you’re interested, please email Amy.

PRISON MINISTRY COLLECTION

If you have some Spring cleaning in mind, consider clearing out some of your used books and your yarn stash! The Dayspring Prison Ministry will again collect donations for the Perryville Women’s Prison on March 19. Used books (fiction, non-fiction, every genre, every topic) are needed and appreciated by the inmates at this enormous state prison. The ladies at Perryville also knit and crochet for a children’s charity. So when we deliver books out to the west side, we also take donated yarn to help them with these worthwhile projects. This is just one small way to show that our congregation cares.

FAMILY PROMISE

We host Family Promise, a temporary shelter for homeless families, the week starting March 26. Volunteers are needed to set up, cook, entertain, spend the night, chaperone, and tear down/reset the rooms for Sunday. We have a particular need for overnight volunteers. Look for the Family Promise table on the patio on Sunday morning to sign up or ask questions.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School is coming back to Dayspring June 12 – 15 from 9:00 am to noon. This year’s program theme is Stellar! VBS is for children ages 3 (by Jan 1 of this year) through entering 6th grade. Church members and returning campers can already register online HERE. Please email Andrea with questions or to volunteer.

TOOTHBRUSH COLLECTION

Throughout the month of March, the Children’s Ministry will be sponsoring a toothbrush drive to send along with the mission trip to Tochimizolco, Mexico. Now through Palm Sunday, we are collecting new, individually wrapped toothbrushes, floss, and travel sized toothpaste. Children can bring their donations to Sunday school or there are collection boxes in the narthex.
