A Rescue Partner In Need
Alliance mobilizes to help partners in crisis!
On February 18, just after a devastating ice storm knocked out large parts of Texas, we received a plea from Houston transfer partner Rescued Pets Movement. Due to the storm, many of RPM’s foster families had lost power and water, and some were dealing with extensive damage to their homes due to burst pipes. They asked for help. They needed water, supplies, and placement for animals caught up in this disaster.
As an organization that spends a lot of time helping animals and the people who love them, we were in a unique position to answer the call. With transports already scheduled, we reached out to you, fellow members of our Alliance, and asked for your support.
When natural disaster strikes, animal welfare agencies mobilize to place pets already in shelters, making room for those animals who will be directly impacted. We stepped up to help, and so did you. Our transport volunteers and staff loaded up our vans to deliver your donated water and supplies while bringing back homeless animals escaping the chaos of the storm.
Transport volunteer and friend of the Alliance Dale Beucler relates his experience meeting with the transport from Texas, "There were 38 cats and kittens in 18 carriers. It was a 3-D puzzle getting all the carriers packed and secured." Thanks to "road warriors" like Dale, these animals found safe haven in Colorado and our partners in Texas had essential resources to help them provide for the many animals still in their care.
Our partnerships with groups like Rescued Pets Movement and our committed team of transport volunteers like Dale mean that we have a strong, stable transport network that does more good for animals than any one organization could do alone. Since the ice storm struck Texas, Animal Friends Alliance has worked with RPM to transfer in 129 cats and dogs. At least eight dedicated drivers donated their time to meet transport vehicles in the Denver area, and numerous Colorado foster homes provided warm, safe spaces until these animals were ready for adoption.
Below are two of those animals, Georgie Boy and Toast.
Georgie Boy is just one of the kitties that directly benefited from transport. A cuddly little guy, and staff favorite, he found a loving new home here in Colorado.
Toast, the husky mix, came in a second wave of animals looking for fostering due to the situation in Texas. Toast has since found his people and is in his new home!
Thank you for all who contributed time and supplies, who donated water, who shuttled Colorado’s newest furry citizens from their transport vans to Animal Friends Alliance, and who fostered them until they were ready to meet their new families.

FEBRUARY FIX FEST IS A SUCCESS
2021: A Spay(ce) Odyssey was a fun, month-long celebration of sterilization. We are over the moon to share that we not only met our goal, we exceeded it. Together, we raised a total of $26,585.36!
Through spay/neuter sponsorships, surgery supply donations, a matching $10,000 gift from Kevin O'Hare, and $2,119.66 from the Poudre Pet & Feed Supply in-store change "round-up," we surpassed our fundraising goal by $1,585.36. Thank you to everyone who joined our mission to end unplanned litters one spay/neuter at a time!

Princess Peach, now Peaches
Princess Peach, now Peaches, was a fearful kitty when she arrived. Staff began to work with her and she started coming out of her shell!
We were thrilled when her new adopter told us that Peaches has come around in a relatively short time. Just seven days into her new life in a loving home, Peaches was snuggling and demanding pets from her new, amazing person. Congratulations!

After nine months and five days, Emmett (now Tater) finally got his Happy Tail. This sweet boy is in a loving new home that tells us:
"We decided to go with Tater because he is the living, breathing definition of a Potato. He's so smart too, learning new commands quickly and being so patient in the process. We couldn't have picked a better pooch and can't believe that he was with you for so long! "
