BCMS Welcomes New Board Members
Albert L. Hsu , MD, a reproductive endocrinologist at the University of Missouri, has joined the BCMS Board of Directors. Dr. Hsu attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City; completed his Ob/Gyn residency at Tufts-Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.; and completed his fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va., where he had the privilege of working with Dr. Howard Jones, who performed the very first IVF cycle in the U.S. Dr. Hsu has been actively involved in the AMA for two decades, is a member of the Missouri ACOG Section Advisory Council, and is currently Chair of the MSMA-Young Physician Section. He joined BCMS in 2017.
Kate Grossman , MD, a pulmonary and critical care specialist at Boone Hospital, has joined the BCMS Board of Directors.

Dr. Grossman attended medical school at State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center and completed residencies in both internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Grossman completed her fellowship at Mount Sinai in New York City. She joined BCMS in March.
BCMS Members to Present
at MSMA Annual Convention

BCMS is proud to announce that two of our members, Nicholas Madaffer , DO, and Amanda Kingston , MD, are featured speakers at the 2019 MSMA Annual Convention in Kansas City.

The Convention takes place April 5-7 at the Westin Kansas City Crown Center.

Dr. Madaffer, who joined BCMS in 2018, is a pain medicine specialist at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. He is speaking at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, and his presentation is entitled "Non-Opioid Pain Medicine (The Other Pills Used to Cure the Ills)."

Dr. Kingston is BCMS's newest member, having joined in mid-March. She is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her presentation
is entitled "Physician Suicide: The Silent Epidemic." Dr. Kingston presents at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

There's still time to register to attend the MSMA Annual Convention. There is no cost for MSMA/BCMS members to attend, and members qualify for free CME.

BCMS Hosts Events for Residents, Fellows and Early-Career Physicians
The Boone County Medical Society is inviting University of Missouri School of Medicine residents and fellows, along with early-career physicians (those who are in their first five years of practice) and their spouses/partners, to attend a series of free seminars designed to provide practical information to help physicians in their personal lives and professional careers.

The first session, "Start Smart" was held on Tuesday, March 19, and focused on the topics of physician contracts, loan management and home buying.

The next session, "Be Prepared," is 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, in the Medical Sciences Building (Acuff Auditorium, MA 217) in the Patient Centered Care Learning Center on MU's Campus (745 Kentucky Blvd.). Guest speakers will focus on personal and professional insurance needs and asset protection. The RSVP deadline for this session is Friday, March 29 .

The third session, "Think Ahead," is 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in the Medical Sciences Building (Acuff Auditorium, MA 217).

Guest speakers will focus on investing, saving for retirement and IRS implications for the new physician. The RSVP deadline for this session is Friday, April 12 .

PDMP Discussion Takes Center Stage at BCMS Meeting
At the March 7 BCMS Membership meeting, three guest speakers spoke about the implementation of St. Louis County's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and its impact on Boone County and Missouri. Presenters included Emily Doucette, MD, the Acting Director and Chief Medical Officer at the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health; BCMS member Jonathan Heidt, MD , Medical Director at University Hospital Emergency Department; and Scott Clardy, Assistant Director of Boone County Health Department.

MSMA Alliance Supports 2019 Match Day Activities at Mizzou
On March 11, the MSMA Alliance participated in Match Day festivities for 95 graduates of the Class of 2019 at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Class President Emil Thyssen (pictured left with BCMS Alliance Representative Mary Catherine Heimburger) was the winner of a $500 gift card, provided compliments of MSMA Alliance member Millie Bever of Kansas City in memory of her spouse, Dr. Grant Bever, OB-GYN.
