Spring 2023 arrived in our area Monday, March 20th at 2:24 PM Pacific Time. But who's counting? Even though there's still snow in some places, the days are getting longer, and green leaves are peeking out and soaking up that extra daylight. More daylight and less snow makes visiting Oregon Farm Loop farms, vineyards, farm stores, and farm stands a lot more fun.
Several of our Oregon Farm Loop members are open and here to help you pick the perfect potted flower or hanging basket that will be wonderful gift that lasts all summer! With Farmer's markets and greenhouses revving up this month, purchase your flowers and nursery plants locally. Make sure to check the individual farm website or Facebook for information and hours.
Speaking of plants, as you likely already know, the best success in transplanting are those starts lovingly grown by our local farmers. They are more likely to flourish and more disease resistant than the factory grown starts in big box stores. Scroll to the "Fresh This Month" section to find out where to get your Spring starts and flowers.

Please note: our South Clackamas Farm Loop website is under repair as of this writing. We recommend not clicking the South Clackamas Farm Loop website links until we announce that it is fixed. We're leaving the links in this issue in case the site is fixed before the next one. Thank you for your patience.

Introducing new farms for 2022
|
|
A big WELCOME to 12 new Farm Loop members and one re-brand! The following selections are open now or by early April:

Graham & Tooze started as an idea, in a car, at a 4-way stop.... specifically at the intersection of SW Graham's Ferry Rd. and Tooze Rd. on a hot summer day in Sherwood, OR.
This 4-acre farm is rooted in big-hearted hospitality and love for the community.
We are nestled a stone's throw from the cozy Villebois Neighborhood and are conveniently situated on a popular route to the Newberg/Dundee wineries.
Over the last year, Graham & Tooze has established itself as the "friendly farm in your backyard." Known for our famously delicious farm fresh eggs (that typically sell out daily) we serve the Wilsonville and Sherwood communities, providing access to locally grown + cultivated goods.
Much like waiting for a chicken to lay an egg, we typically operate on a similar sporadic schedule. Our "grab n go" selection of goods is open 24/7 which includes our famous eggs and fresh cut firewood.

We raise the largest herd of Scottish Highland Cattle in Oregon in the same manner which they evolved over the centuries in Scotland. They graze on grass and brush in pastures and wooded hillsides. Visitors will see our spring calving herd and during the summer and fall, our bulls and calves - which are not only cute, but cavort with one another. We also sell our amazingly tender, flavorful and nutritious grass fed and grass finished Highland beef on the farm. Tours are by appointment only and vaccination against Covid is required of all who come onto the farm.

Michael and I moved to the Willamette Valley over 8 years ago, left the city life of Los Angeles, and started an alpaca farm and bottling our own wine, Cougars Mark. The vineyard was already here and it was a Pinot Grigio, but we have since changed the 2 acres of vineyard to Pinot Noir. Currently, we have 12 alpacas and 1 llama. We also have two Kune Kune pigs and five sheep. As well as chickens, cats and dogs is our guardian dog, Bailey. We recently put a barn on the property with RV hookups and we are working on an outdoor gathering spot for tastings and events. We also have built a small retail shop full of alpaca goodies—lots of pasture and land—26 acres, so plenty of space to walk and explore. We fell in love with this land; we think it has the most beautiful views. So come experience alpacas, take in the views, and taste some wine.

From 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, pastured poultry, forested pork, to sustainable wild-caught seafood and vegetables in season — you’ll always find deliciously good food that you can feel great about eating, no matter what you’re cooking up in the kitchen. Our partnership agreements are made with intention and every farmer who we work with already displays a steadfast commitment to doing right by people, animals, and the planet. We work with them constantly to make sure our highest standards are met in all areas of their operations and processes, every single day. We know that when you nourish the land and its inhabitants, it nourishes back. Our farmers don’t just grow food, they raise it, with community health in mind. We offer purchases of whole or fractional shares of beef, pork and lamb, as well as walk-in retail cuts. Visit us at the Farm Store for meats and seasonal vegetables, as well as non-perishables, such as local raw honey, hazelnuts, spices, dog treats, and more!
