ISR Meetings at ECR 2026

Aside from the ISR Executive Committee, ISR Foundation, International Assembly, ICR PPC and ISRQSA meetings, the ISR held bilateral meetings with its representatives from UN organizations (IAEA NMDI, IAEA RPOP, WHO) and interprofessional organizations (including AFRA, IOMP, ISRRT, WFUMB) to discuss ways to further strengthen our collaboration, particularly regarding the upcoming International Congress of Radiology – ICR 2026 as well as supporting the implementation of the WHA78.13 Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity.

The ISRQSA was pleased to welcome representatives from its newest member, China Safe, to its meeting at ECR. The activity updates presented by the Alliance’s member campaigns demonstrated continued progress in implementing the ISRQSA Call for Action. An ECR 2026 poster titled “ISR Quality and Safety Alliance (ISRQSA) Call for Action: Update on implementation” also bears testimony of this. Based on the aspirational goals of its member campaigns, the ISRQSA is planning to develop a strategic agenda to further promote radiological quality and safety.

ICR 2026

With the International Congress of Radiology – ICR 2026 approaching fast, the ISR met the leadership of the Colombian Association of Radiology, which is hosting the ICR in Cartagena, Colombia, from 14-16 May.

The ISR is grateful to its Colombian partners for preparing an excellent program. Our special thanks also go to the IAEA for supporting professionals from underserved areas in the region to attend the ICR.

The preliminary program is available on the ICR 2026 webpage here. Visit the ISR website to stay tuned for updates!

ISR Involvement in ECR Scientific Program

ISR officers were involved in various scientific sessions at the ECR. Geraldine McGinty, Chair of the ISR Commission on Radiologic Education (ISRCRE) gave a lecture on the Radiologist’s perspective in US in the Session “Shortage of radiologists: myth or reality?”.

The recording of the session is now accessible on ESR Connect upon login for free. Click here:

Shortage of radiologists: myth or reality?

In his talk about “ESR EuroSafe Imaging: strengthening quality and safety across borders in cooperation with IAEA”, Boris Brkljačić, ISR President-Elect, mentioned the ESR and ISR’s collaboration with the IAEA, which he called extremely important in view of the implementation of the WHA78.13 Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity. Diana Paez, Head of the IAEA Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging Section, dedicated a separate lecture to the Resolution.

IAEA - Enhancing quality and safety in medical imaging: an IAEA global perspective

ESR Meetings

ISR President Bibb Allen presented the ISR’s perspective on “Education In Radiology – Transforming Radiological Education In Underserved Areas” during the European Society of Radiology’s International Forum. He mentioned the ISR’s strong support of WHO Member States’ initiatives to improve health in Low- And Middle-Income Countries, such as the WHA Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity and the ISR’s collaborations with imaging-related WHO non-state actors and the IAEA to bring high-quality education to underserved areas.

Pelvic Puzzles: Imaging Non-traumatic Emergencies of the Femail Pelvis: A Comprehensive Review

Acute non-traumatic pelvic pain represents a frequent and complex diagnostic dilemma in pre-menopausal females presenting to the emergency department due to overlapping symptomatology across pregnancy and non-pregnancy related causes. Radiologists play a pivotal role in expediting accurate diagnosis and guiding appropriate management in these potentially life-threatening scenarios.
