NVTA's FY2026–2031 Six Year Program Public Comment Period Is Around the Corner!

Starting April 2 through May 17, NVTA will open a public comment period for the FY2026–2031 Six Year Program (SYP), which includes 27 candidate transportation projects submitted by eight Northern Virginia localities seeking regional funding. The project proposals span transit, rail, roadway improvements, transportation technology, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and intersection and interchange upgrades.

Community members are encouraged to review the candidate projects and share their feedback during the comment period. The public is also invited to provide in-person or virtual testimony during the May Authority meeting (May 14). Registration to provide testimony will open on April 2.

FY2027 Budget Adoptions

The Authority unanimously adopted the following budgets:

◈ FY2027 Local Distribution Fund Budget

◈ FY2027 Regional Revenue Fund Budget

◈ FY2027 Operating Budget

Collaboration Across the Region

NVTA is proud to support our partners in improving Northern Virginia's transportation network. Together, we advocate for the region’s transportation needs and work to secure the resources necessary to advance vital projects.

The Authority approved the City of Alexandria's request to transfer Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) funding from various projects to the West Taylor Run and Telegraph Improvements project. The redesign of the intersection of Duke Street and West Taylor Run Parkway will improve safety and reduce cut-through traffic.

The Authority approved a letter of endorsement of Virginia Railway Express' (VRE) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) application for the L'Enfant Station and Fourth Track Improvements project. As part of the Transforming Rail in Virginia initiative and the Long Bridge Program, this investment will expand the corridor between Virginia and Washington D.C. from two to four tracks, improving safety, reliability and regional capacity.
