CCG Workplace Safety Tip

National Ladder Safety Month is organized by the American Ladder Institute (ALI), and is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting ladder safety, at home and work. Each year, thousands of injuries and hundreds of deaths are caused by ladder misuse. However, this can be prevented by following these safety tips.

See something? Say something! Lighthouse Services provides an anonymous ethics and compliance hotline for all employees of the Columbus Consolidated Government. This includes fraud, waste, abuse, and safety violations. The purpose of the service is to ensure that any employee wishing to submit a report anonymously can do so without fear of retribution.

Employees are encouraged to use the hotline service in cases where their anonymity is desired.

Lighthouse Services’ toll-free number and other methods of reporting are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for use by employees and staff.

  •  English Speaking USA and Canada: (833) 984-6669 (not available from Mexico)
  •  Spanish Speaking North America: (800) 216-1288 (from Mexico user must dial 001-800-800-216-1288)

  • Fax: (215) 689-3885 (must include company name with report)

AEDs in the workplace save lives! Minutes and even seconds can make the difference in a life being saved. If someone is suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, they need help immediately. A bystander with access to an AED can greatly improve the chance of survival.

About 13% of workplace fatalities are caused by sudden cardiac arrest. And, reports show that organizations with an AED program have used their AED at least once to save a life. Having an AED at your worksite could mean the difference between life and death.

●        The sooner a defibrillation shock is administered, the greater the chance for full recovery

●        Survival rates are as high as 45% if defibrillation is provided within five to seven minutes

●        Few successful resuscitations happen after 10 minutes

AEDs are placed throughout all of our City owned buildings, if you or your department have questions about CCG’s AED program, please contact

Risk Management at 706-225-4039.

CCG Employee Spotlight

Please email the employee’s name, a photo, and how they showed safety practices to Lauren Vance, Risk Management.

This March we’re observing Nutrition: The Gut/Brain Connection. Research over the last decade has made it clear that the microbiota in the gut both directly and indirectly affects our brains’ emotional and cognitive centers. Mood disorders like depression and anxiety disorders have established links to gastrointestinal (GI) disruptions. Research further shows that what we eat substantially impacts the composition and activity of these gut microbes, giving perhaps a new perspective on the phrase, “You are what you eat.”
