Sidney CDO Workforce Manufacturing Basics Class is a Success!
In February, Sidney CDO Workforce held a free Manufacturing Basics Class.
The
five-day
class was taught by
Broome Community College.
Some 15 students graduated!
Topics covered were blueprint reading, shop math, measuring devices, hand tool usage, quality overview, communication skills and technical writing skills.
After successful completion of the class, the students had an opportunity to meet with area manufacturers

Youth Services Career Advisor Daniel Goldman Speaks at Career Day
On February 15th, CDO Workforce
Youth Services Career Advisor Daniel Goldman attended
Unadilla Valley Central School's Career Day. A number of
local organizations, businesses and companies were
invited to take part in the event.
The
goal of the event was to
provide students with information about
possible career paths and to
expose them to local establishments that
support the school through various means.
Daniel
spoke to children in
grades 6 though 12 about
working at CDO Workforce and in the
Human Services career field. He
discussed with them the
academic requirements to
obtain a job as a counselor, as well as the
benefits of working in this field.

Alan Sessions has
resigned his position as
BEAM Outreach Coordinator in the Otsego and Delaware County regions. He has
accepted a new position as
Disability Resource Coordinator (DRC) for the Disability Employment Initiative (DEI) grant in Oneonta.
The
Disability Resource Coordinator program goals are:
-To
improve education and employment outcomes for
youth ages 14 to 24 who
have disabilities a
nd i
ncrease their participation
in existing
career pathways programs
;
-Expand the
capacity of the career center systems
to
serve youth with disabilities
using a
career development approach
,
-And develop a
broader business engagement approach
within existing career pathway programs to
address business needs
and develop a
sustainable talent pipeline
.
Disability Resource Coordinators perform
outreach on behalf of the local Workforce system to
engage those individual job seekers with disabilities. The DRC will
perform outreach to the
disability community, the service providers, and individuals with disabilities. They
provide information on J
ob Center services, helping individuals with disabilities to have
access to needed services. In addition, the DRCs will
provide staff training, giving information about the
service delivery components and i
ntervention strategies that will
enhance and support the
existing services in the Job Centers for
individuals with disabilities.
We wish Alan well in his new position and look forward to our continued work with him in his new capacity.

AAI Program Director Nate Crossett
was among 14 workforce professionals from across the state to recently take part in the
Workforce Academy for Policy and Advocacy
- hosted by
NYATEP
(The New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals).
The
three month Academy
included a
series of in-person seminars
with
leading advocacy experts
and
visits with lawmakers in Albany
. It
concluded with a special town hall
and
graduation ceremony in New York City
.

Section IV Athletic Council to induct NYSDOL Labor Service Representative Cheri Hess into their Hall of Fame
On March 3rd,
Cheri Peck Hess will be
inducted into the Section IV Athletics Hall of Fame.
Some 17 athletes and four coaches from Chenango County Schools will be honored in a ceremony that will take place at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY.
Cheri
earned 14 varsity letters and was
chosen as her team's Most Valuable Player nine times during her
five years of athletic competition at
Mount Upton Central School. She
competed in basketball, softball and soccer.
She is
still active in bowling, golf and softball and is an
assistant coach for the local
youth soccer team and the
YMCA Vipers AAU basketball team.

led an initial event last fall that was i

The Outreach Coordinator/Case Manager will work closely with local One Stop Career Centers, community training providers and local community college, employers, and participants to deliver intensive, wrap-around support services to assist college stop-outs in accessing post-secondary educational opportunities to obtain credentials that will lead to employment opportunities.

SUNY Broome Community College is offering a Free Manufacturing Basics Class!
Manufacturing Mini Job Fair to Follow - Job Fair open to All
A
Basics in Manufacturing Training program, funded by a
NYS Department of Labor grant, will be held at the
Otsego Chamber of Commerce, Oneonta, NY.
This
training program is
two weeks long and will be held
March 5th - 16th.
The
training components cover a
number of areas identified by
local companies as a
"plus" to being hired by their companies.
Manufacturing Basics Certification Outline:
Hand Tool Usage, Blueprint Interpretation, Reading Measuring
Devices, Shop Math, Quality Control, Basic Computer, MS Excel,
Interpersonal Communication, and Technical Writing.
Successful completion of this two week program
guarantees set-aside interview time with
manufacturing companies at a
job fair following the training. The
job fair will be held on March 16th, from
3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, at the
Otsego Chamber of Commerce.

CDO Workforce has OJT Funds Available

Cost of training weighing your business down?
Use On-the-Job Training to help cover the costs!
The CDO Workforce New York One-Stop System has On-the-Job Training (OJT) Funds available.
The OJT funding provides companies with an incentive to hire and train individuals who lack the specific skills or experience for a job.
OJT is appropriate for occupations where classroom training is not suitable and for which specific job skills can be learned by a worker while engaged in useful work.
This program is for full-time (at least 32 hours per week) employment and cannot be used for seasonal, commission, or 1099 employment opportunities.
Business OJT users apply their own methods to teach workers the new skills necessary for successful employment within their company, while the trainee is performing productive tasks.
OJT contracts can be written up to $2,000 per trainee depending on amount of training provided.

Bassett Healthcare Partnership for Nursing Opportunities Program
The Partnership for Nursing Opportunities Program allows students to complete their associate degree in nursing through SUNY Delhi. Following completion of the first year at SUNY Delhi, the student may secure employment as a Patient Care Assistant 2. Upon completion of the second year, the student/employee will earn an Associate of Science in Nursing and will be eligible for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
The Bassett - Hartwick College program is designed for Registered Professional Nurses interested in earning a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree while working. RNs will work 12-hour shifts each week at Bassett Healthcare and receive two days of on-site nursing instruction by Hartwick College faculty at Bassett. Following completion of two full calendar years, the Registered Nurse will earn a BS.
Full tuition support is provided to the eligible employee/student in either program with a payback commitment following program completion. Bassett is currently seeking candidates for entry into the SUNY Delhi and Hartwick College at Bassett Medical Center.

Unadilla Valley Central School hosts a Reach Workcamp
From July 8 to July 21, 2018, Unadilla Valley Central School will be hosting a Reach Workcamp to benefit our community.
The
focus of Reach Workcamps is to
organize and operate home repair programs for
elderly, disabled, and low income households who are
unable to do the needed work.
Repairs can include painting, roofing, improvement of decks and porches, building wheelchair ramps, and flooring.
Reach utilizes middle and high school students to achieve their objective. The students are members of youth groups who travel to camps from all over the United States. While at camp, students also participate in activities that build community, self-esteem, and encourage spiritual growth.
Repairs will be made to
qualifying homes in approximately a
20 mile radius of the
Unadilla Valley Central School. The s
chool will host up to
500 adults and youth each week. With this
level of participation, 1
00 to 120 homes will be
impacted.

have a crew come to your home for
painting or repairs, please

Homes will be inspected by Reach to
determine if the students are able to accomplish the work. All youth are
supervised by an adult and
each work site has a professional assigned to trouble shoot.

Regional Workforce Training Center
Training Space Available!
Boasting state-of-the-art technological capabilities, the Regional Workforce Training Center is located at the Otsego Chamber / Otsego Now offices on the fifth floor of 189 Main Street in downtown Oneonta.
The Center is an initiative of the County of Otsego IDA, with a mission to make connections with regional employers to assess their staffing needs, develop training programs to meet those needs, and market those programs in the community.
The Training Center is fully equipped with the latest smart technology, and the Center will be able to help employers and workers meet their training needs.
The Training Center offers the following facilities:
Small Group/Media Room
Small group workspaces for independent or class work; seating for four workgroups.
Flexible space allows for use as small groups space or speaker/audience setup.
55" display, full HD, HDMI capacity, USB, wireless HDMI capability for computer-based
slide presentations, access to web-based content, including online streamed television
viewing.
Huddle Room
Small group workspace with dry erase whiteboard for planning and capturing idea flow.
Seminar Room
Seminar/meeting space with seating for nine.
Multiple dry erase white boards around the room to capture idea flow.
LCD Projector and dry erase white board with computer-based slide presentation, web based content access, print from screen and marker-free white board capabilities.
Comfortable lounge for informal meeting space.
Training Center Lounge
Lounge space with beverage center (coffee, tea, hot chocolate).
Individual and group workspaces, social groupings in lounge.

Training Center Classroom
12-seat capacity formal classroom.
MacBook Pro laptop computers capable of running either Windows 7 or Apple OS; accessories include mice and headsets for each laptop.

computer-based slide presentation, web-based content access, print from screen, and
marker-free white board capabilities.
