Message from the Executive Director

Attention Chamber of Commerce members! Please mark your calendars and plan to attend our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 27 at the Badlands Community Facility. The evening will begin with a wine & cheese networking reception at 6:30pm followed by the meeting at 7:00pm. The agenda will include reports on Chamber activities in the last year, in addition to the presentation of our 2017-18 audited financial statements, election of Directors and a roundtable discussion on the future of the World’s Largest Dinosaur (WLD).

At this years’ AGM, there will be five (5) Director positions up for election. There will be four 3-year terms and one 1-year term available. To be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, membership fees must have been paid by January 31, 2019. Members are requested to review the link for information regarding Board of Director requirements and to submit an expression of interest. Please note, all nominations for the Board of Directors will be received from the floor during the AGM. For more information about serving on the Board, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 403-823-8100.

The other major component of our AGM will be a discussion surrounding the World’s Largest Dinosaur. Since the Chamber of Commerce engaged Williams Engineering in the fall of 2015 to perform a structural assessment of the dinosaur, our Board of Directors have spent considerable time and energy discussing the future of the WLD. These discussions have included future maintenance, longevity of the steel structure and cost benefit analysis. In the years to come, the Board has some important decisions to make. These decisions are not taken lightly and will be made with the best interests of the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce and its members in mind. With this information, we are asking our members to attend our AGM to have an open discussion with the following questions in mind:
·          What would the “New” experience be?
·          Where would it be located, with pros and cons of each location?
·          Who would the partners in this project be?

With spring right around the corner (I hope anyways!), we are approaching our 5 th annual Spring Expo tradeshow, which will take place on April 26 & 27 at a new venue – the Badlands Community Facility. We have a great selection of vendors already booked in, but still have booths available. Contact Marley at 403-823-8100 to secure your space!

Respectfully submitted,

Heather Bitz

Block Buddies Needed for the Welcome Program

Drumheller FCSS is re-establishing a Welcome Program in Drumheller, using a $10,000 grant from Aviva to develop the program.
So, how can you help?
They are looking for ‘Block Buddies’ ; people living in each of our local communities (East Coulee, Lehigh, Cambria, Rosedale, Wayne, Bankview, Newcastle, etc.) who are willing to undertake a short (couple of hours) training session and then be the person/people who will welcome newcomers to their area (maybe invite them to an upcoming event or similar). ‘Welcome Packs’ will be created that the block buddies can give out to newcomers.
Ideally, eventually block parties d invite all the new folks along – this would be a great chance for all residents (including newcomers) to get to know one another, integrate and foster a sense of community. Block Buddies will be able to access some funds to host these block parties and we can provide kits. Bock Buddies may wish to work with the local Community Associations (if there is one in their area) and other local groups to host the block parties.
If you are interested or would like more information, contact April Harrison at 403-823-1315 or .
