A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Rebecca Wakefield, CMP
MPI New Jersey Members and Friends, first and foremost, I hope you and your families are safe and healthy. With this ever changing Pandemic staring us in the face, I urge you to listen to your Government & Health Agency's guidance and take care of yourself, your families and your community.

We are continuing to monitor this world situation daily, and while we are saddened to have had to cancel our March and April events due to the safety of our members, discussions will continue to happen regarding our scheduled events beyond April, This includes our Education Program currently scheduled on May 14th. As the situation evolves, we will continue to communicate and update you on all of our programming decisions.

Since we are social beings, and "social distancing" is an oxymoron for us in the meetings industry, I would like to recommend each of your to pick up the phone and keep in touch with your colleagues and industry friends. Reach out and see how your colleagues are doing, even if just to exchange recipes, workout apps and maybe a funny story or two. When we come back (and we will come back from this) we will be an even stronger community and industry because remember WHEN WE MEET, WE CHANGE THE WORLD!

2019-2020 MPI New Jersey President

UPCOMING PROGRAMS
Due to the recommendation by our government officials due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, MPI New Jersey has made the choice to cancel all programs for
March & April 2020.

We will keep you up to date on all upcoming programming beyond April 2020 and work to bring you valuable educational content in other ways until we are able to meet again soon!

"Bite Me!  The Law of Food & Beverages " Presented by Tyra Warner Hilliard
Agenda:
Networking Reception 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Program & Keynote Speaker 7:00pm - 8:30pm

As any planner or food provider knows, food and beverage is a risky area.  Beyond keeping hot food hot and cold food cold, there are liability issues related to dietary restrictions, food allergies, food borne illness, alcohol, and more.

In this session, we discuss the legalities behind food and beverage service.  From contract language that every planner should include in catering contracts regarding who shoulders the lion's share of liability and fair performance clauses to leveraging the law to get restaurants, caterers, and hotels to donate food to minimize food waste in a country that sees 1 in 8 people face food insecurity, this is the law of food.

Learning Objectives:
1.
Define service standards that will not only improve the quality of service, but reduce the risk of liability.
2.
Evaluate due diligence when dealing with ADA issues, including food allergies.
3. Clarify the responsibilities and opportunities under the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act.

MPI New Jersey is a CMP Preferred Provider and works with the EIC to have all our education  programs pre-approved for credits.
This Program is pending approved for 1 credit

COMMUNICATION CORNER
COMMUNICATION TIP

THE FLOODING SMILE!

Don't flash an immediate smile when you greet someone, as though anyone who walked into your line of sight would be the beneficiary. Instead, look at the other person's face for a second. Pause. Soak in their persona. Then let a big, warm, responsive smile flood over your face and overflow into your eyes. It will engulf the recipient like a warm wave. The split-second delay convinces people your flooding smile is genuine and only for them."
