to welcome the 2020 International Women of Courage Award recipients to Los Angeles. During the luncheon discussion four of the women will share their stories of incredible bravery and commitment to improving our global society!

The United States Secretary of State's annual
International Women of Courage Award
recognizes women from around the globe who have demonstrated exceptional courage while advocating for peace, human rights, women's empowerment and more. Often at great personal risk, these amazing women have dedicated their lives to making our world a better place.

Open World Program Hosting Opportunity!
|
|
IVCLA is excited to welcome six
Open World Program
participants from Russia who will be here to discuss
Media Literacy
. These visitors will have the special experience to stay in an American home during their week in the Los Angeles area. As a host for one or two of the visitors, you will be able to show them a glimpse of life as an Angeleno while learning about Russian culture! This is a unique opportunity to get to know someone from another part of the world and build a lasting friendship.
The visitors are available for overnight home stays during the week of
April 24 - 30.
Hosts have the option of hosting for the entire week or just a portion of the week. Each weekday the visitors will be attending their professional meetings. IVCLA will arrange their transportation from your home to their meetings and back at the end of the day. Whether you would like to host for the entire week or just a few days during the week, your hospitality will be greatly appreciated!

Anniversary, we will be highlighting a former international visitor each month through the rest of 2020. We welcome suggestions about visitors to highlight. This year also marks the
80
th
Anniversary of the U.S. Department of State’s
International Visitor Leadership Program
's (IVLP) which is the primary program IVCLA coordinates. The theme of the IVLP Anniversary celebration is #FacesofExchange.
This
initiative will highlight 80 years of the IVLP by showcasing 80 accomplished alumni, their lives and leadership, and the impact of their exchanges on the global community. With over 225,000 International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumni, each person has a story to tell and has become a Face of Exchange.

Rima Nashashibi to Receive Woman of the Year Award!

IVCLA is proud to announce board member Rima Nashashibi has been selected to receive this year's
Congressman Lou Correa's Woman of the Year Award
! In honor of women’s history month, the award recognizes exceptional women who either
live, work, or have a meaningfully impact in the 46
th
Congressional District
.
Rima has served as Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County for a decade and subsequently served as President of the National Women Political Caucus in Orange County. In June of 2017, Rima launched
Global Hope 365
, a nonprofit organization advocating for policies and laws that disrupt the market of buying and selling women and children for sex.

World Trade Week Scholarships Deadline is March 13

The World Trade Week committee offers scholarships to aspiring students in international trade fields. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university with the goal of a career in international trade, as well as college students pursuing international degrees. By fostering international trade education and international business development, the committee hopes to develop a network of international trade professionals willing to provide mentoring to future students interested in international business

International Youth Media Day (IYMD) is coming to Cleveland Charter High School! The IYMD is an intercultural festival with amazing films, live video streaming from participating countries, a silent auction, live student performances, and delicious foods from various cultures. Young people from around the globe will show the power of youth, media, and arts of communication!
Included in the film screenings will be three films produced by IVCLA's group of filmmakers from India, who met with the Global Media Studies Magnet faculty and students this past January.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world famous international science and engineering fair for high school students and
the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.
Society for Science & the Public is seeking interpreters and general volunteers for Regeneron ISEF 2020. More than 500 volunteers across a spectrum of activities are needed. Volunteer opportunities are available during the week in a range of shifts!
