The City of Greater Sudbury News and Updates, March 2025

A Message from the Mayor

March Update

As we welcome March, we can all feel the anticipation of a new season ahead. The days are getting longer, and soon, signs of spring will be all around us. This is a time of renewal, growth and continued progress in our city.

March is also a time to celebrate community. Throughout the month, we recognize International Women’s Day, a moment to reflect on the contributions of women in Greater Sudbury and beyond. We also mark Francophonie Month, an opportunity to celebrate our city’s vibrant Francophone culture and history.

This month, I’ve also been proud to represent Greater Sudbury at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention in Toronto, the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining conference. Our city is a global leader in mining, innovation and supply, and PDAC provides an important platform to promote our strengths, attract investment and highlight the opportunities that lie ahead for our local economy.

As we transition from winter, I encourage everyone to take full advantage of the outdoor amenities our city offers—whether it’s a final skate on Ramsey Lake, a snowshoe on our beautiful trails or a visit to a local rink with family and friends. Our city is full of opportunities to stay active and connected.

Looking ahead, we remain focused on delivering the priorities that matter most to our residents—housing, infrastructure and community safety. With strong collaboration from all levels of government, we are making real progress that will benefit our community for years to come.

Thank you for your continued engagement and passion for Greater Sudbury. Let’s make the most of the month ahead!

Mayor Paul Lefebvre

Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Now Open

The City of Greater Sudbury is now accepting applications for volunteer firefighters. We are seeking dedicated team players in good mental and physical health to join our team.

Recruitment will close Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Applications are accepted year-round, so any received after that date will be considered for 2026 recruitment.

People interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter are encouraged to attend an open house session in late March or early April to gain insight into the role. These sessions will allow individuals to ask questions, interact with current firefighters and learn firsthand about the responsibilities and experiences associated with firefighting.

Animal of the Month

Meet Zeus!

Zeus is a sweet, affectionate 7-year-old male mixed breed who absolutely thrives with company, both human and canine.

However, Zeus does suffer from separation anxiety. He will need a family that can offer him the time, patience and love he requires to feel secure when left alone. He needs a home where someone is around most of the time, or where there’s another dog to keep him company while you're away. Zeus is currently untested with cats and children.

If you’re experienced with dogs who need extra support, Zeus will reward you with endless love and affection! With a little time, he’ll settle in to be your loyal companion.

If interested in Zeus please call us at 705-694-7387 or apply online.
