Dear Parents and Families,
We continue our school-wide theme of exploring mindfulness as presented in the book I Am Peace. Mrs. Bernaiche and Mrs. Murphy Mulligan presented to the faculty this month’s topic: Self-Awareness.
Self-awareness is the ability to understand our emotions, thoughts, goals, values, prejudices, strengths, limitations, and any other mental states, and how all those affect us and others.
We discussed how developing self-awareness skills may bring several benefits. These benefits include:
- Improved self-regulation / emotional regulation
The ability to understand our feelings, mood, thoughts and behaviors, assists self-
regulation.
- Better self-knowledge
- Better understanding of other people’s goals, emotions, thoughts and mental states in general. Our self-awareness facilitates the ability to attribute those same mental states to others.
- Personal development
An accurate evaluation of our self may motivate us to realign in order to achieve our
goals and be consistent with our values.
The faculty will be exploring these ideas with the students this month. The teachers will be
engaging the children in activities to help them become aware of their own strengths and
recognize their gifts as something more than just “things I’m good at”. One such activity is The 3 E’s which stands for excel, excite and enjoy. The child will list accomplishments they feel they excel at, other interests they feel excited to do, and activities they enjoy doing. Once completed they go through the three lists, they can connect those attributes that repeat in those three lists. Those could be considered their strengths.
We all have so many gifts to offer each other and the world. Sometimes we need to self-aware of all our blessings.
As Mother Teresa most beautifully said, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
We are still seeing cases of the Norovirus which is a more severe form of the GI bug marked by abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting and sometimes fever. Unlike the typical rotavirus, this one can last longer up to 72 hours or greater. Currently there is a 24 hour period where they need to stay home after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea, but this can be extended depending on how severe the symptoms are for your child. If your child vomits the night before the next day back to school is NOT 24 hours. Please make sure to follow this to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Please continue to check your child for an appetite, fever and prolonged symptoms and keep them home until they are completely well. Disinfect areas with diluted bleach and hand wash to prevent spread to others. Watch for signs of dehydration and seek medical care if your child has extreme weakness, a prolonged fever, vomiting and diarrhea and a decreased urine output.
Thank you,
Mrs. Cowan RN BS

Reminder:
No child is allowed to bring to school any unauthorized medications into the school without a Doctor’s order. This includes over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Vitamins, Lactaid or Probiotics. All medications must be brought to the Nurse’s office in the original container with a Doctor’s order for distribution. No child is to carry any type of medication unless this is ordered by the Doctor and must be given in the Nurse’s Office unless otherwise specified on the order. Any student caught with an unidentifiable medication will be brought to the Principal and if there is cause for concern such as suspected drug use, consequences can occur that will be up to the Principal and may include Law enforcement. We have seen an increase in Drug usage in our communities and within schools and we do not want to impact the safety of Corpus Christi School and our students. Be assured illegal drug use has not occurred in Corpus Christi School but there is a need for me to be proactive at this time. It is with this knowledge that I alert parents to the above Policy to keep our School Safe.
Stuffed Animals are not permitted in the School due to sanitary issues. Children can easily transmit germs and potentially lice to others and we try to minimize the point of contact to keep the school and students healthy. Family pictures are encouraged if separation anxiety is an issue.
Thank you,
Sue Cowan RN BS
