Downtown Distinction Award
The Downtown Distinction Award goes to – The Burlington Beacon.
The Burlington Beacon was chosen for the Downtown Distinction Award due to the coverage and involvement in local Downtown Events and projects throughout 2021.
Started by owner and publisher, Jeff Abell, The Burlington Beacon went from a social media outlet covering local news in Greater Burlington to a weekly printed newspaper in Sept of 2021.
In each of their publications, The Beacon has featured and spotlighted Downtown Burlington. Without fail they promoted Downtown by capturing the events, businesses and developments that are happening in the district.
Downtown Burlington has continued to thrive because of their support. They continuously have shown off how vibrant and unique Downtown Burlington is, coupled with the continued growth of the district.
Their support has improved event attendance and communication for Downtown Partners, Inc. programming. It has even sparked interest to those who may have not been Downtown in a while, to make a trip to see the growth and happenings in Downtown Burlington.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Downtown Burlington. We wish the Burlington Beacon success and growth in the future years.
Congratulations to The Burlington Beacon, the winner of the Downtown Distinction Award.

The 2021 - 2022 Greater Burlington Leadership Class Announces Group Project
Annually, participants of Greater Burlington Leadership are tasked with working as a group to provide a project that will improve the community and make an impact on others, while learning to work as a team, broaden their network, delegate, manage conflict, and speak in public.
Members of the 2021 - 2022 Burlington Leadership Class are excited to announce their group project! They will be raising money for a ‘Welcome to Burlington’ historic mural.
Public art helps bring culture and a vibrant welcome to the community. The mural will be located on the side of a building on Court Street, between Main and Front Streets.
Craig Jacoba has been selected to be the muralist on this project. Craig's work can be seen all around the community. He's done work at the pediatric unit at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, CNH and the YMCA.
This art will be a catalyst for more art in the community and an attraction to welcome tourists into Greater Burlington.
