Director's Message:
Envisioning Innovative Library Spaces
What a whirlwind start to 2021! Since the November 2020 election, when our community supported and approved Measure Z, we have been hard at work compiling and strengthening our key teams that will guide important building projects moving forward, including our Board of Trustees subcommittees for the Community Facilities District (CFD) and building projects. There have already been Requests for Proposals issued for Capital Projects Management, Bond and Disclosure Counsel Services, and Municipal Advisory Services so that we can support our work with the expertise of experienced professionals along the way.

If you want to dig into the specifics, please explore our CFD Committee and RFPs pages.

Above all, as our teams move forward in this work, we are striving to achieve balance in how we address the needs of our buildings, which include ADA compliance, noise control, and layout issues that undermine our ability to provide certain services. We strive to maintain the architectural beauty that our community so enjoys while also ensuring that our buildings serve the key functions of a library that will serve Altadena for generations to come. So, we ask ourselves and you, our community:
How can we continue to honor our building’s historical integrity while designing and creating multi-faceted library spaces that support our services and meet the needs of our diverse community?
Library buildings of today spark the imagination of communities around the country, with exciting features like...
- Sound-insulated makerspaces to empower artisans and makers in the community,
- Business centers with public printers, copiers, community resources, and other tools to support local business owners,
- Media labs to support digital creatives in podcasting and music production,
- Fully-equipped meeting and event spaces,
... and so much more to meet the unique needs of each community.
Will you join us in this visioning process for our buildings? We want to talk to members of our community about their experiences in our library buildings and how our community’s vision for the future of Altadena can shape the development of our spaces and services.
