March 2020: What's New
COVID-19: A Temporary New Normal
The rapid spread of the coronavirus has drastically changed the way of life for millions of people around the globe. Our Encompass Pediatric Therapy Team has been working hard to put resources together to help families. We include a few of those with you in this newsletter and will continue to share more helpful articles through social media over the coming weeks.
To start things off, Encompass Clinic Team Supervisor Lindsey Cooper and Encompass Behavioral Health Manager Megan Walsh share important tips for "Talking to Kids about COVID-19." With all the changes, they are sure to have questions. But how do we answer them?
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates
We have created a page on our website for all updates relating to the evolving COVID-19 situation in King County.

This is where you will find the latest status of all Encompass programs. We have also included a list of useful blog posts from our experts at the bottom of the page.
Teletherapy: Connecting at a Distance
If you find COVID-19, or any other issue, is making it difficult for you to attend your Clinic visits, you might consider teletherapy. Through the use of live video, your regular session takes place with your therapist and offers an ideal solution in-lieu of an in-person visit.
Currently, all Birth to Three Early Intervention services are moving to teletherapy until further notice. Other Clinic and Behavioral Health services can be in-person or via teletherapy. Please contact our Pediatric Therapy Clinic at 425.888.3347 if you have questions or would like to change your appointment type.
Read our blog article by Speech-Language Pathologist and Clinic Team Supervisor Lindsey Cooper to learn more about how teletherapy works.
March is Resilience Month in the Snoqualmie Valley
The Snoqualmie Valley is celebrating Resilience Month this March.

As understanding and managing anxiety are closely linked to resilience, Encompass is addressing this important topic on our blog and in a two-part podcast series.

In response to the current situation with COVID-19, Encompass Behavioral Health Manager Megan Walsh writes a blog post about "Managing Anxiety during Uncertain Times." While we should all be heeding recommendations for avoiding physical risks to virus exposure, it’s just as important to build in some practices that safeguard our emotional and mental health.

Then Megan joins us in a two-part podcast series addressing childhood anxiety. Part 1 includes two children and their mothers sharing their experiences with anxiety, in hindsight, recognizing that the two girls showed symptoms at a very young age. Later today we'll bring you Part 2, where each of our guests will share share tips for managing anxiety.

Quilting in Ms. Amy's Class
Earlier in February, students in Ms. Amy's class were treated to a sewing lesson by volunteers Pat and Ray Konecke ! Each student had a turn on the sewing machine and contributed a patch to a growing quilt. It was so fun to see their concentration and the pride they took in their workmanship!
ParentChild+ Gets Creative with Process-Driven Art
One of the great aspects about process-driven art is that with a little help from the Early Literacy Specialist and the parent, the child can have fun using art materials while practicing fine motor skills and learning how to focus on a single task to completion while still producing a product that everyone recognizes.

Heidi created a beautiful rainbow dinosaur as an extension activity to the book How Do Dinosaurs Count to Ten? by Jane Yolen.

Encompass Early Intervention Featured on Univision

Hania Rios, Encompass Family Resource Coordinator, recently featured on  Univision Seattle  to talk about the important role this program plays in early childhood development.
