Global Highlights

Women influence nearly $32 trillion in global consumer spending, yet female-founded startups receive only around $20–30 billion annually in venture capital funding globally. This represents less than 3% of total VC investment, a striking gap between economic power and representation in financial innovation and investment leadership, as highlighted by IBS Intelligence FinTech Journal.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the financial sector, automating operational roles where women are highly represented, such as billing, credit control, customer support, and financial administration. Women currently dominate these roles (82.9%), placing them at higher risk of automation but also at the forefront of the transition toward AI-enabled financial roles in data analysis, AI governance, and strategic financial decision-making, according to insights from Mercer Global Talent Trends and SPS workforce research.

Academic research highlights persistent barriers, such as limited STEM encouragement, workplace bias, and unequal leadership access. These obstacles slow women’s advancement in technology and finance. Expanding digital skills and women’s participation in AI and fintech will be essential for a more equitable and resilient financial future.
