First, a special thank you to the Area Representatives who will be walking the neighborhood and passing out the annual neighborhood door hangers. Others are helping distribute to Area 6 where we do not yet have a representative. And the little envelope attached? The neighborhood association hopes you will consider sending in the $15 dues. Your dues pay for this e-news, the website, and several other projects.
Jefferson Park has partnered with the U of A and TPD to add a second doorhanger warning neighbors of the high incidence of car theft and burglary in the university area, particularity Jefferson Park.
Sorry folks, we are first in the city in that unfortunate statistic. Our student population is the highest target. While thieves are hitting the kids for their computers and tech items, why not go next door and see what the homeowner has?
Crime puts Jefferson Park in the spotlight
Thank you Rosemary Bolza, our intrepid Vice President, for doing the interview with KGUN TV.
Our dubious notoriety for being the worst hit neighborhood in Tucson for Burglary, Robbery, and Grand Theft Auto brought the TV to our door asking for someone to speak with KGUN 9 about our problem.
We hope the flyers (shown below) and the increasing number of home security cameras can help stem this tide.
TPD reports the crimes are largely connected to student vacation times, and students are the main, but not the only target. TPD reports that security cameras can help. If there is a burglary, the officer will ask if any neighbor caught anyone on camera. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH can also help, see https://www.tucsonaz.gov/police/neighborhood-watch

Our First Monument Sign on Grant Road
Location, and Sample of Jason Butler work
The JPNA Board voted in February to select Jason Butler for the design and fabrication of the 14'-16' monument sign at 1st and Grant.
Your JPNA dues and donations will make this possible.
Thanks to our neighbor Zach and city engineer Jesse Soto (former JP neighbor) for getting permits etc.
Watch that corner!

Louie worked on funding the Historic Nomination for Jefferson Park. His home was a 2011 Home Tour participant and Louie was always ready to do a Fundraiser Dinner (below).
Louie helped Zach with the Traffic Circle sign install. (above).
One of three historic,1945, photos donated by Louie, of the view from his home on Hampton, this one looking north to the Catalinas (below).
Long time resident, Louie Werthmuller worked hard for his neighborhood. He served on the non-profit board, Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc and did fundraising for the nomination of the Historic District. He became an Area Six Representative.
The Friends received permission from Parks and Recreation to place a bench in his honor and the JPNA Board approved it as a project.
The bench will be placed in the park between Hampton and Park.
Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc is a 501c3. Your donation will receive a receipt for your records. To donate to the cost of the bench you may use the Pay Pal button button below,
or mail your donation to Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc, P O Box 41243, Tucson, AZ 85717.

CITY OF TUCSON TO ASK VOTERS TO EXTEND HALF-CENT SALES TAX
On Wednesday, Feb 23, the mayor and council voted to approve the truth in taxation language which will officially place Proposition 411 on the May 17th ballot.
This will be a vote-by-mail election. Ballots will be mailed out on April 20th. There will be ballot drop-off sites scattered throughout the city in each ward. Locations will be posted on the City Clerk website – go to www.tucsonaz.gov/clerks and click on ‘elections’ for that information.
Prop 411 is the extension of the current ½ cent sales tax that’s now going to road repair and public safety capital needs. The extended version will be for 10 years, it will allocate 80% of the funds to residential road repair and 20% to public safety roadway amenities such as lighting, HAWK lights, sidewalks and those sorts of things. The goal is to make our roadways safe for all modes of travel.
(from Ward VI newsletter)
In a recent meeting between JPNA and Ward III, neighbors asked about the promised street repaving between Park and Mountain from Chauncey Lane to Grant Road.
The answer is...it has funding but no one seems sure about when it will happen. Rumor has it perhaps May. Depends on availability of contractors, availability of materials, etc
Meanwhile folks, here's a new idea lifted from the newsletter of the Garden District. Something like, if all you have is lemons....make lemonade! Street Golf while we wait.
Don't forget!!
The only way to get our roads repaired and fixed is for TDOT to hear from YOU! (520) 791-3154
