As we delve into the rich tapestry of emotional and musical entanglements between Robert & Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms, tracing their influences back to the Romantic era. Our journey begins with Robert Schumann's "Frauenliebe und -leben," a cycle that epitomizes his 1840 "Year of Song," reflecting his deep love for Clara amidst their tumultuous courtship. These songs, based on Adelbert von Chamisso's poems, explore the profound stages of a woman's love and life, revealing the societal and personal contexts of the time.

We then transition to Clara Schumann’s contribution (Op.12) for the collaborative masterpiece of Clara and Robert Schumann, "Zwölf Gedichte aus F. Rückerts Liebesfrühling," a testament to their union in love and art. Clara, defying the gender norms of her time, contributed significantly to this collection, expressing the deep emotional bonds and mutual inspiration between her and Robert.

Our program concludes with Johannes Brahms' "Op. 91, Zwei Gesänge," a composition deeply rooted in his personal connections with the Schumann family and his affection for the art of song.
