New Take and Make Craft Kits for March!
For our craft lovers, we will continue to provide Take and Make Craft Kits for pick up! Kits are in limited supply, so we encourage crafters who have their hearts set on certain crafts to call ahead to reserve one at (920) 398-3434. All supplies are included.

A small fee for each craft kit covers the supply costs. Here's the schedule for February's crafts:

Winter Reading Program 2021
There's still time to join in the fun and read to win great prizes in our Winter Reading Program! You can pick up and turn in reading tickets until Saturday, March 13.

We'll announce the prize winners on Monday, March 15.

Thanks to a generous donation by the Giddy Up Bar & Grill in Dalton for children’s activities along with other donated funds, the library is able to offer a Winter Reading program!! Similar to our Summer Reading program, the Winter program, “Snow Much Fun”, is raffle based and there are fun raffle prizes for all ages!!

Children & Teens:
Children & teens are invited to pick up reading tickets at the library and begin logging their reading. For every two hours read, a reading ticket will be completed and participants can enter that ticket into the raffle of his or her choice.

Adults
For adults, every book read earns a completed raffle ticket, which can be put towards the raffle prize of their choice.

The program will culminate on Saturday, March 13 with prizes being picked on Monday, March 15.

Chair Decorating Class
Monday, March 8 @ 6:00 pm
The 2021 Chair Affair is fast approaching! This great fundraiser will help improve and refresh our children's area!

Volunteers to paint or decorate a chair are earnestly needed! Would you like to help but feel like you don’t have the skills? Then, we hope you'll consider attending our Chair “Refresher” Course! This informational class will give you all the ideas, tips, and tricks you need to get you started on your own chair design. We'll cover topics like how to prep a chair, how to transfer decals or stencils, and how to paint will all be covered. You will be pleasantly surprised at how easy and fun “refreshing” an old chair can be. This class will be led by local artists Nancy Kirst and Cindy Boelter.

This class can be attended in person or you can watch in on Facebook live! To watch it online, all you have to do is go to our Facebook page when the class begins at 6:00 pm.

E-Sports: Among Us - Battle of the Libraries!

Thursday, March 11 & 25
4:00 - 4:30 pm
Join us again for a few rounds of "Among Us", but this time, we'll play with the Brandon Public Library and the Princeton Public Library! Small prizes will be awarded!

Players ages 10 and older are welcome, but younger players can attend with a supervising adult.

Sign up required in advance by calling the library at (920) 398-3434. Let us know if you would like to reserve one of the library's devices, or if you will play on your own device at home. If you will play remotely, we will call you shortly before 4:00 pm with the Lobby Code.

Egg Decorating
Eggs-travaganza!!

Wed. March 17 - 2 sessions
11:00 am & 1:00 pm
Decorate eggs at the library with your friends! You supply the hard-boiled eggs; the library will supply the coloring materials. Fun DIY techniques will be explored like shaving cream, rice shake, traditional, and more! Sign up is required due to space limitations. Please let us know which session you would like attend. Both sessions will cover the same techniques.

This program is geared towards ages 10 and up. Younger children are welcome to attend with a helping adult.

Book lovers and movie lovers unite! The Theater Readers Book & Movie Club is for anyone who loves movies or books or both! We will meet on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:00 pm in person and virtually on Google Meet. This month, read or watch the best-selling mystery No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith!

This month, we'll be meeting in person and also be streaming the meeting on Google Meets. Please sign up in advance and let us know if you would like to come in person or attend online. Those who will be online will receive the meeting link in an email shortly before the meeting begins on Tuesday, March 23.
Be part of our Bunny Pageant!
Decorate a stuffed bunny, then bring it back to the library for judging during our Bunny Pageant!! Top three winners will receive a $10 cash prize!

Ongoing Programs
This winter, Story Time continues to be virtual. New videos are uploaded every week on our Facebook page. Young children get to go on an adventure through the alphabet this fall, followed by fun activities like crafts and songs. More experienced readers get to hear classic chapter books.

New for Adventure through the Alphabet Story Time: Fun craft kits will be available each week that you can take home to make along with Miss Brittany during virtual Story Time! These craft kits will be available in the children's section of the library starting a few days before Story Time each week. We try to post photos of each craft on our website and Facebook page every Monday.

If you prefer contactless service, we can bring a craft kit out to you via curbside pickup. Just call and let us know to hold one for you, as well as when you would like to pick it up! Our phone number is (920) 398-3434.
Online Reading Challenges
Try one of our 2 fun online challenges -- earn small prizes, enter raffles, and discover great resources along the way!

How to participate:
The challenges will take place completely online and readers can access them at markesanlibrary.beanstack.org. Participants can also download the Beanstack app and search for Markesan Library to play

100 Books Before College (ages 12-19): 100 Books before College dares readers 12-19 yrs. to read 100 books before they graduate. Small incentives we be awarded and at every 10 books read, participants earn tickets to enter into a prize raffle of either a $25 Ted’s Piggly Wiggly Gift Card or $10 gas station cards. At 50 books read, participants earn a book to be purchased in their honor for the library’s collection by an author or genre of their choice. The library will put that participants name in recognition inside the book and the reader will get the first checkout. At 100 books read, participants will receive a book to keep. The raffle portion of this challenge will be drawn on June 1, 2021 and then renew with prizes for participants still working on their goals.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (birth to 5 years old): This challenge is is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to success! Any child ages birth to five years can participate. Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading record to the library to receive a special reward. At 1,000 books read, come celebrate at the library, see your child’s name placed on the 1,000 Book Wall of Fame, and receive a free book. Pick up a log sheet at the library, or download one by clicking here to get started!

Despite a challenging COVID year, the Markesan Public Library continues on its quest to be better than ever by updating our building and expanding our offerings. All proceeds from the 2021 Chair Affair will go towards a much-needed refresh of the Children’s Area. We are busy working on ideas on how to make the children’s area more fun and functional from paint, to shelves, to toys, to books. And we are going to need funds to make those dreams come true.
