Sam Ajlani Receives American Association of Community Colleges Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award
Congratulations to Sam Ajlani, associate professor and program manager of engineering technology at the College of Central Florida! He will receive this national award at the AACC Annual Conference in Denver in April.

The American Association of Community Colleges’ Faculty Distinction recognition, named in honor of former AACC President and CEO Dale P. Parnell, has been established to recognize individuals making a difference in the classroom.

Recipients for the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty award:
  • Demonstrate passion for the students and the classroom.
  • Show willingness to support students, inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Be inclined to participate in college committees.
  • Go above and beyond what is required to ensure that students are successful in their academic endeavors.

Florida Schools Recognized as ITEEA
2022-2023 STEM Schools fo Excellence
The International Technology and Engineering Educators Associate (ITEEA) recognizes outstanding schools for their commitment to providing a robust Integrative STEM education program. The following schools will officially be awarded as part of ITEEA’s 85th Annual Conference to be held April 12-15, 2023, in Minneapolis, MN.

2023 Florida TSA State Conference
Ernie Friend, Executive Director for FLATE, participated in the 2023 Florida Technology Student Association (TSA) state conference on February 22-25 in Orlando, Florida. This event truly highlights the state of Florida education system's efforts to prepare our young people for high-paying careers. The results of this year’s competition can be found here
Hillsborough/Pinellas STEM Fairs
Danielly Orozco-Cole, Career and Technical Education Program Manager for FLATE, was part of the Bay Area Manufacturing Association (BAMA) team of volunteers who had the opportunity to review, interview, and judge some of the best engineering-manufacturing related K-12 projects during the Annual Pinellas and Hillsborough STEM Fairs.
Spark STEM Fest - Orlando
Feb 17 - 20, 2023
FLATE and the Manufacturing Association of Central Florida (MACF) had a booth at the Orlando Science Center for the annual Spark STEM Fest held over President's Day weekend, sharing information on manufacturing careers. Over 500 students, 270 parents and 50 educators visited our booth! Hands-on activities included programming a robot and measuring items with a caliper.
Made in Tampa Bay Expo

The Bay Area Manufacturers Association (BAMA) hosted the annual “Made in Tampa Bay Expo & Job Fair. Held at the Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry Campus, the event showcased local manufacturers and their featured products made in Tampa Bay. Participants had the opportunity to learn about these products, how they are made and job opportunities at the companies. AmSkills and FLATE joined efforts to showcase multiple educational resources with hands-on activities to increase participants’ awareness and interest in the field of manufacturing and all the careers it represents.

A week of hands-on training in emerging technologies for Secondary and Post-Secondary
Educators teaching manufacturing, engineering, and related courses. Topics include Measurements, Fusion 360 & 3D Printing, Elecrified Vehicles & Robotics. Also, field trips to two local manufacturers! Lunch will be provided each day. Travel including mileage and hotel will be covered for those travelling more than 50 miles.
FANUC: Aligning Skills Between Industry & Education
Workshop for K-12, Post-Secondary Educators & Employers

There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. Educators from Florida Secondary and Post-Secondary Educational Institutions who attend the full day workshop and respond to a survey are eligible for a $100 stipend from FLATE.

RobotStudio is ABB’s simulation and offline programming software that allows students to demonstrate an improved understanding of robot programming and operating concepts.

ABB donates 100 Premium RobotStudio licenses with access to all PowerPacs to schools to help drive technology. Schools do not have to own ABB robots to take advantage of this offer, just submit a letter of intent to ABB each year to keep the license active.

Orange County West Team wins the Able Trust's
2023 HSHT Project Venture Student Competition
The Able Trust team recently traveled to Orlando for Ability Week for the High School High Tech (HSHT) conference and the final round of the Project Venture competition. HSHT is designed to provide high school students with all types of disabilities the opportunity to explore jobs or postsecondary education leading to in-demand careers. Project Venture, the Able Trust HSHT competition that challenges high school students to develop a business plan proposal for a new product and accompanying commercial. Congratulations to the finalist teams from Orange County West, Union County and Bay County!

 Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology at NIST Student Summer Internship (Stipend $650 per week)
The Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST) NanoFab, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and NEATEC are sponsoring internships for your students to take part in during the Summer 2023 term at CNST in Gaithersburg, MD. This term, they will sponsor two students (community college and/or four-year technical college). Starting on May 22, 2023, the internship will last 14 weeks. Students selected for the program must attend the full period as well as a three-day fully paid preparation workshop at SUNY Poly in Albany, New York.   
   
Each student will receive a stipend of $650 per week for the duration of the internship and a one-time payment of $500 to cover travel expenses. Application deadline: April 7
