Happy March! Spring is on its way and with it, some much-needed warmer days lay ahead.

At this point in the semester, midterm season is just around the corner for our students. Now is the perfect time to plan to send a care package, an e-gift card to their favorite coffee shop, or an encouraging text message.

Since exam time can be busy for students, we want to remind you of valuable resources on campus for their mental and physical well-being. Health and Wellness offers a variety of programs and appointments to help our students flourish through the season.

Spring Break will take place from March 12-20. We hope your student can use this time to relax and rejuvenate before heading back into the final stretch of the semester. Residence halls will remain open over Spring Break.

Finally, we know many families are navigating housing selection for the upcoming academic year. Residence life will be holding three off-campus housing fairs to assist students in this process.

Get informed about any emergencies or campus alerts by registering with RAVE. and providing some basic contact information. After doing so, you will receive official emergency notifications from the W&M Emergency Management Team via text message and email.

On February 28th, William & Mary updated it's masking policy on-campus. Effective March 1, masks will generally be recommended, but not required, indoors on William & Mary’s campus, except in classrooms and class labs during scheduled classes and/or lab activity, as well as in the Wellness Center and public transportation. The decision to maintain masks in all classrooms recognizes that we are in the midst of midterms and want to minimize disruptions to faculty teaching and students’ academic efforts. Masks will also continue to be required in a few other limited venues, including the Student Health Center and on public transportation as mandated by the federal government.

On Thursday, February 24th, Residence Life shared an update regarding the large university housing wait list. William & Mary has decided to delay the planned work at One Tribe Place and occupy the building for the 2022-23 academic year. This decision will increase assignable spaces by 346 beds.

As William & Mary prepares to celebrate its 329th year, the university is experiencing record-breaking interest in entry to the school. The Office of Undergraduate Admission received 18,050 freshman applications for fall 2022, a 3.5% increase from last year and a new record for the university.

William & Mary also received a record number of Early Decision applications, a 5% increase from 2021. The total number of applications from under-served communities also rose, with a 10% increase in first-generation students, 7% in students of color and 14% in students using a fee waiver.

For our Charlottesville community: Please join us at Highland on Saturday, April 2, 2022 for the Communal Quilt Project. Participants will be guided through the process of creating non-sewn quilt sections. With simple elements like fabric, glue, and scissors participants will make a quilt section that shares aspects of their own stories. In late Spring 2022, the sections will come together in a patchwork quilt to be displayed in Williamsburg. This is a great opportunity to bring our Highland community to the Williamsburg campus! Workshops are free of charge. No quilting or art experience needed! Due to supplies, the workshops are not open to the public. The two workshops will be held at 10 AM and 1 PM. Each workshop is two hours long, and you only need to attend one. Highland continues to require masking when indoors. Advance sign-up required.

The Hazing Prevention Coalition at W&M will launch our spring semester social media campaign the end of February and early March - sharing information from Coalition resources and Stophazing.org. Please consider following us on instagram @wmhazingprevention to keep up with community wide information sharing.

The Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT) at William & Mary Law School has developed a series of introductory law classes for high school and college students. This program gives students interested in law and government, as well as business and technology, the opportunity to experience classes in the comfort of their homes using an interactive videoconferencing platform. Classes are offered in June and July and last between eight and 14 hours. This program offers students an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable knowledge for their future careers.
