Clarification re: Pedestrian Street (P-Street) Designation of
Lincoln Avenue, between Belden and Webster Streets (2200-2300 block)
I recently introduced an ordinance designating Lincoln Avenue, between Belden and Webster Streets (the 2200-2300 block) as a Pedestrian Street, commonly referred to as a “P-Street.” There has been some confusion about the notice given by the City explaining this ordinance.
This designation will have no impact on the current configuration of the block and further, no added restrictions on vehicular traffic or parking will occur once the ordinance is in effect. This P-Street designation is not a rezoning of the properties on either side of Lincoln Avenue between Belden and Webster Streets.
Several commercial streets in our Ward are P-Streets. A P-Street designation is designed to enhance the walkability of commercial streets by prohibiting curb cuts, as well as regulating the signage and window designs on the ground level of commercial buildings. For a map of the P-streets in the city, click here.
