Welcome to our MARCH Framer's Corner!!!

This Beautiful, unique and psychedelic embroidery piece was recently brought into our shop for framing.

This piece was very special to our customer, as it was created by a member of their family.

Sometimes when customers come to us for framing they know exactly what they are looking for and sometimes they need some creative ideas. Our job, in either case is to help our clients through the design process and collaborate on what they are looking for and what works best for their artwork. Our goal is to make the art stand out and give the customer and the art our best professional designs.

In this case, the customer came to us originally wanting to cover up the wavy pink and brown stripes using an oval opening in matting, showing only the lilies, but through the design process and choosing the right materials the customer followed our lead and decided to show more of the wavy lines and colors. This embroidery piece is one of the most interesting ones that we have framed.

We think Jessie did an excellent job with this design.

She started with the matting options and utilized a triple mat design. This allows all the colors in the piece to be accentuated.

Starting closest to the artwork Jessie chose the pale pink Crescent mat in the color Bandage, the middle mat was a vibrant green Bainbridge mat in the color Wild Olive, this highlighted the colors within the lilies, finally, the soft suede Crescent top mat in the color Off White enhances the soft texture of the floss and yarn used for the embroidery.

How we prepped this piece for framing...

To create this design Jessie used an archival mounting method called stretching. We stretched the embroidery over a piece of acidfree foamcore and tacked it into place using stainless steel pins, these pins will not rust and will leave the integrity of the piece in tact.

Next step is to do a build up of foamcore around the stretched embroidery, this will keep the piece in place as well as provide a flat even surface for the mats to lay on, essentially creating a sandwich of foamcore, art, and matting.

Now there are only a few steps left.

Jessie and her customer chose Conservation Clear glass for this project, the glass is 99% UV protectant and will prevent fading in the matting and art work over time.

Last, but no where near least is the frame. Choosing a frame is the last part in designing and it really brings the whole piece to life.

Jessie chose a dark walnut stain moulding that helps to accentuate the browns within the piece and helps draw your eyes back to the subject; the lilies.
