Preparing Students for Successful Futures

On March 22, more than 200 JAG-K students and staff gathered at McPherson for the annual State Career Development Conference (CDC).

Students competed in events that showcase competencies attained in the program. They also voted for new state officers for next year and met with more than 20 potential employers at a career fair.

At the CDC, the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner announced winners of its annual financial literacy essay competition (story below). JAG-K also announced the winners of two other scholarships.

Student Essays Win Financial Literacy Scholarships from Kansas Securities Commissioner

Three participants in JAG-K programs were announced as winners of a financial literacy essay contest sponsored by the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner, a division of the Kansas Insurance Department.

Royals Charities Donates Professional Attire for JAG-K Officers

The Kansas City Royals wear some of the classiest uniforms in Major League Baseball. Understanding the link between appearance and performance, Royals Charities recently provided professional attire to the 16 JAG-K regional and state elected student officers.

At the CDC event on March 22, JAG-K participants across Kansas voted for statewide officers for the next year. Elected to serve as state officers were (pictured above, left to right):

President Charee Moore, Wichita Southeast; Vice President James Kingsbury, Larned; Secretary, Xavier Aquino, Shawnee Mission North; Parliamentarian Laila Horton, Junction City.

Russell High School JAG-K Student Learns About Career in Agriculture Through Internship

Summer is rapidly approaching. The break from school presents life-changing opportunities which JAG-K helps students navigate. Whether it's through camps, job shadowing, work opportunities, etc, JAG-K Career Specialists help students line up applications, interviews or whatever else they needed to obtain those experiences.

JAG-K Student From Kiowa County High School Receives Rudd Scholarship

Kiowa County High School senior and JAG-K Career Association Vice President Liberty Gilkey was recently announced as one of 30 recipients of the Rudd Scholarship. The Rudd Scholarship is a Kansas program for Kansas residents who qualify for a Pell Grant.

Newton High JAG-K Student Serves as Legislative Page at Statehouse

Civic awareness and leadership development are two important emphases of JAG-K programs across the state. One of the ways JAG-K attempts to develop these qualities in students is by providing them experiences at the Statehouse in Topeka.
